I usually go to 100 or so gigs a year mainly tribute bands but lots of originals too. 1960 ish to 1990 ish is where my interest lies. All music from Iron Maiden to C and W.
I was recently thinking about the tragic early deaths of so many music icons.
Talking to Russell Thompkins (Stylistics front man) last year he reminded me of the horrific end to the life of Marvyn Gaye a wonderful singer. I still find the young deaths of people like Lennon ...Gaye ...Bolan ...Shannon ...Morrison ...Curtis ...Marriott ...Cobain...etc etc really sad as a music fanatic.
Who do you miss the most from a music legend point of view?

Bowie. Not so young but definitely before his time. Sadly missed.

Jimi Hendrix. I only got to see him once on his first tour and I'd love to have seen how his music might have evolved over the decades.

Amy Winehouse. She used to work a few shifts at the Hawley Arms in Camden, which is where I first encountered her. She was very down to earth, fame did her in. It’s a shame.

Paul Kossoff.

I wasn't just upset when he died, but actually angry with him. Total waste of talent. And I felt very sorry for his father. It is often easy to forget that all these performers who died young didn't just have fans who miss them- most had parents who did not expect to outlive their children.

Nick Drake. JJ Cale. Not that they'd have set the world on fire.

There's a few names there that I miss.
Sad to think that fame and subsequent excess took quite a few of them

Nick Drake.
I really like Nick Drake but I agree, I don't think he'd have been much more than a footnote in musical history had he not killed himself. I know that sounds harsh.

Stuart Adamson, lead singer with Big Country. Great guitarist and a real loss.

It’s amazing to see that people still wrap friendship bracelets around the statue over in the stables. I guess that speaks volumes.
