Music legends who died young who you still miss?
Discussion
Steve Goodman, died 1984, aged 36,from leukemia.
Not what you would call a legend, but a talented singer/songwriter/guitarist, he never got the recognition he deserved.

Nick Drake.
I really like Nick Drake but I agree, I don't think he'd have been much more than a footnote in musical history had he not killed himself. I know that sounds harsh.zetec said:
Keith Moon
Greatest drummer ever? Jury is still out.
Biggest rock n roll lifestyle? Got to be.
How he performed to such a high standard while being utterly wrecked is a miracle
What do you call a bloke who hangs around with a bunch of musicians? The drummer.Greatest drummer ever? Jury is still out.

What’s the difference between a drummer and a drum machine? You only have to punch the instructions into the machine once.

Mate of mine was a childhood friend of Moon and lived round the corner from him in Alperton. Apparently, he was a nutcase as a kid. Aged about 12, he set fire to Wembley Arena ice rink because they didn't have any skates available in his size. Greatest drummer ever? Jury is still out.

This is another thread that shows the age of contributors to this site. The average year of death of all the people mentioned is about 1985 and thats thanks to some late deaths or it would be much earlier. Most people on this thread have been dead 40 years plus
Other than Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse, musicians tend not to blow themselves into the weeds like they once did, so it’s unlikely that we’ll see the ‘legend died early’ thing happen much now. For one, the legend label won’t happen quite so readily because it’s all a bit generic now, and the whole ‘it’s awful, really terrible, drugs are bad mmmmkay, let’s all be really woke, not get hammered, and party until we collapse, because the wet wipes that keep us in business will explode if we do’ scenario dictates it. There’s no more ‘Rock and roll lifestyles anymore’ that’s very naughty, and will never do. Would have loved to have seen Janis Joplin, helluva voice.
The one that upset me the most was Viv Stanshall, simply because he didn't come anywhere near reaching his full potential and met such a tragic end.
As posted already, others of note to me are
Ronnie Lane - a massively underrated musician and band leader with the wonderful Slim Chance, Keith Moon and Stuart Adamson.

Jeff Buckley ... barely got his career started yet still produced one of the best albums of all time
As I mentioned yesterday. Your point in his album being one of the best of all time still stands today-I know people know some of the songs but to listen to it for the first time in its entirety is a beautiful moment. One of the very few albums in history that’s perfection from start to finish.
But back to the thread
Jimi Hendrix, Chris Cornell and Neil Peart are the ones I miss.
