Gig Plans - 2022
Discussion
After thinking I'd lost my gig mojo (after 40 years of gigging) I had it absolutely restored by the utterly brilliant Tangerine Dream the other month in Southampton, fantastic gig and more than made up for the surprisingly disappointing Damon Albarn.
Gigs booked so far:
Bauhaus: Brixton
Kraftwerk: Bonn
Pete Tong: Brighton
Future Islands: Southampton
The Cure: Birmingham and Cologne
Blancmange: Southampton

I'm a bit late to the party with this, but I went to see Joanne Shaw-Taylor at the Barbican, York on Sunday.
Excellent set if you like raucous blues - she has a great voice, too. Recommended.
I saw her on Thursday 28th April at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival and fully agree that she was excellent. I hadn't heard of her before but have now bought one of her albums and told plenty of friends about her as well.Excellent set if you like raucous blues - she has a great voice, too. Recommended.
Also saw Imelda May, Lola Young, Adeline and Saving Grace (featuring Robert Plant and Suzy Dian) - seen them twice now, they are also excellent.
And last night - not my usual thing but went with a good friend to see Keith Urban down in Bournemouth and came away very impressed with his singing, guitar playing and general showmanship. Good gig.

Just got back from Tool in Birmingham.
Great show. Danny Carey is an absolute machine!
I was there as well, it was fantastic wasn't it? It was my first time seeing Tool and as long as they tour again, it won't be the last! Danny Carey is incredible isn't he?Great show. Danny Carey is an absolute machine!
The only thing that I thought was a bit odd, was that Maynard stayed on the platforms on each side of the stage for almost the whole show. Having watched videos of older shows, I expected him to be prowling all round the stage and front and centre for a lot of it. That and the fact that Adam and Justin pretty much stayed in the same place all show (although I get why Adam did as he needed to be near his other bit of kit). They all felt a bit detached from each other. Part of the whole performance I guess. It was a brilliant show though and I loved every minute of it!
Did you think the security were a bit OTT on the old phone use though? I saw at least 2 people get kicked out for checking their phones during the break between the main set and the encore. One made it back but didn't see the other one. The guy who made it back was texting his mate. One security guy was telling the guy taking him out, but he wouldn't listen. At least he let him back in. I checked the football scores during the break and felt lucky I didn't get carted out when I saw that happen!

Definitely one of the best shows I've been to. They're an incredible band live, but considering the complexity Danny Carey going flat out for over 2 hours was mind boggling! The only thing that I thought was a bit odd, was that Maynard stayed on the platforms on each side of the stage for almost the whole show. Security were straight on people using phones, even 10-15 minutes before the support act (There's no place for brass in Deftones songs ). Saw a few people arguing with security and getting removed.
To be honest, it was nice to see people paying attention to the show instead of holding phones up or having your view blocked by someone with a phone in the air.
I'm surprised Maynard was on the platforms, was expecting him to be hiding in the shadows or behind that curtain they had for the first few songs all show.
I’m glad they were on it with the phones tbh. I’ve had many gigs ruined by them. It made the gig so good without any phones out. It was mind blowing overall. So loud If someone warns you you’re getting kicked out if you take that phone out again, just don’t get it out! It’s zero tolerance so there is no grey area around it.
Was actually surprised only The Grudge from Lateralus was played (which was epic). I thought Lateralus or Schism were virtually guaranteed - naive I guess. But it was awesome nonetheless and I enjoyed Brass Against covering 46 & 2 and Aenema.

Totally agree about security being on it with the phones during the show, it was great to not see loads of screens etc. and instead seeing people actually watch the show. I was talking about people before the show and in between the main set and the encore. TBH I checked the football scores in the break, just before a guy in front of me was booted out for texting his friend. Even one of the security guards was telling the one chucking him out it was ok to text people. Was actually surprised only The Grudge from Lateralus was played (which was epic). But it was a brilliant show though. Enjoyed every second of it. Danny Carey is incredible. I mean they're all great but he's on another world!
