Got a busy end of year coming up;
Sisters of Mercy
The Black Crowes
Guns n Roses
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
We got a bit cut off down here in Australia for the past few years, so good to see some live acts returning.
Just a quick update on how these have been;Sisters of Mercy
The Black Crowes
Guns n Roses
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.
We got a bit cut off down here in Australia for the past few years, so good to see some live acts returning.
Sisters - still groovy even if Eldritch's voice is a bit of growl these days. Some good new stuff played as well. Lucretia and Temple of Love were highlights.....of course!
Black Crowes - this is the 4th or 5th time I've seen them, and it was probably the best. Good tight show. Chris's voice still very soul and blues full. Good to see the brothers resolved their differences. Virtue and Vice as an encore which I think is a hidden gem.
G'n'R - 3.5 hour show! Axl was on great form and was even smiling.... and we got some rain most of the night, so literally November Rain. All the hits, but Rocket Queen and Coma made it for me. Slash is a freak with on guitar!
Saw Placebo last night at Brixton Academy, fantastic gig and atmosphere, was really packed. Can't provide any photos of them on stage as it was advised against, but imagine a short Jack Sparrow singing nasally and lots of guitars and a violinist and you're there. Been a fan for about 23 years and by a quirk of inconvenient past gig timings, this was the first time I have seen them and wasn't disappointed

That’s really good value at current prices. Billy Bragg supporting them on some shows as well I think?
First Aid Kit were on my list this year but I missed the boat and now trying to decide if I really want to see them at the Manc Apollo for £86 a ticket on viagogo!! They’ve been on regular rotation on my Spotify for a few years but never seen them live.
Personally, I wouldn’t pay £86 (to see anyone that is, not just First Aid Kit). I didn’t realise they were such an in-demand ticket (I have tickets for the Cambridge show). Given this demand, you might have to be lucky to find one or two on Twickets in the week or two before the gig, but that’s what I’d take a chance on. It’s highly unlikely that it’ll be the last time they play the UK if they can sell out shows that easily too.First Aid Kit were on my list this year but I missed the boat and now trying to decide if I really want to see them at the Manc Apollo for £86 a ticket on viagogo!! Metallica tour announced.
No UK date.. seems to be increasingly common, I'm told the EU have done something with working visas to make it very difficult for bands to tour the EU and UK as one venture.Struggling to feel the excites TBH, olympic stadiums meh but you're not getting them anywhere else, 2 night show would be special though.
With our long term plans might be our last chance to see them but it's just not lighting up the radar.

Donnington tickets could be an option?
Oh, didn't see that on the tour literature, down-load *cold shudder*Thanks for the tip off, maybe there's a way of making it work, but TBH having seen metallica earlier this year at Mera Luna festival - and restricted camping to smaller festivals for a good few years now - I don't think my (not so inner) grumpy old man could hack that operation!
Just looked at the line up and there isn't a single band beyond Metallica for me!
there’s still some gaps to be slotting in gigs in ‘23, not sure if they’ll do any other uk dates though, download might have them on a exclusive ‘uk only’ type deal?? then the next run of euro dates is actually in ‘24 and again space in between what’s been announced today for more euro gigs.
I’ve seen them twice, last time in glasgow was 2017, not sure i’m really in any rush to go see them again. 5yrs ago they were charging £100 a ticket for standing, so not sure how much they’ll charge this time round- £150? also don’t fancy booking gigs into 2024, I had such a cra summer of cancelled gigs (chillis, guns and ratm in a couple of weeks) i don’t think i care that far ahead! I’m also not the biggest fan, so paying that money and then seeing them play (to me) a fairly random/ obscure set list, means i’ll probably not bother!

I think with bookings you just have to chance it if it's someone you want to see but yeah for anything that isn't a-list the fear of disruption can make the difference. The Mera Luna tickets we bought mid 2021 with no idea what the world might look like in 10 months time - but they were "only" €65 so we just said funk it lets buy and see what we can do when we get there!
Had discussions with the boy last night (my son, main gig buddy) and concluded we'd rather do 2 Ghost dates than one Metallica. I've surprised myself somewhat here having followed the band since 1986...

Stuff like this just really highlights the overly commercial nature of it all... I understand they're an enormous band and can't just freely meet and chat with all their fans, but when it's broken down in such a way, it feels painfully commercial.I wouldn't be surprised if they started adding "Maximum conversation time of 120 seconds, to include no more than 3 questions of moderate complexity and not pertaining to any of the prohibited topics listed below. The conversation will be timed from the first word spoken by the customer and will be cut off at the time limit. Any attempt to extend the conversation time may result in expulsion from the venue."

Same here. I saw them at Cardiff Arena last thursday. First time live despite listening to them since before their first album came out! Brian's not big on the chat, but they don't half rattle through the setlist. Gap between songs was about 10 seconds so they really pack in the songs. About 50/50 new album and older stuff, plus covers of Shout and Running up that Hill in the encore. Both me and Daughter 2 (13yo) loved it.

It's a shame isn't it? Gone are the days of hanging round the loading bays at venues hoping to grab a quick autograph. I've got several early signed Maiden albums framed in my hallway from such encounters. Quick chat and a scribble and not a penny charged.I wouldn't be surprised if they started adding "Maximum conversation time of 120 seconds, to include no more than 3 questions of moderate complexity and not pertaining to any of the prohibited topics listed below. But then, if I were to go off on a rant I'd include comic cons, where years ago you'd pay for your signing and guests would be happy to snap a quick selfie. These days you pay for your autograph and most charge an additional fee for the selfie.
Sad times.

We went to a pilton pop party one year when placebo played , he was great , this cool as fk gender bending brooding frontman playing a large wedding marquee in Somerset Brian's not big on the chat, but they don't half rattle through the setlist.
