Inspired by some lyrics in the "......lyrics that didn't age well" thread, I was reminded of this Led Zep tune:-

I play the guitar, but I can recognise a killer bass line when I hear one and JPJ's work on this tune is - for me - astonishing

Another that springs to mind is Roger Waters on PF's "Money"

Any more for any more?

I'd expect stuff by Geddy Lee / Les Claypool / Flea / Jaco Pastorius

I’ve posted it before, but it never gets old.

He makes it look sooo easy.

I add anything Bernard Edwards and also the very underrated John Taylor.

Pretty much anything by Ian Dury and the Blockheads, with Norman Watt-Roy. Rhythm Stick is one of those tracks you can listen to over and over, just picking out a different instrument each time.

I'm sure you all know how it goes, and the bass is crap on YouTube, but- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WGVgfjnLqc

ETA: Related; Mark O'Toole and Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Two Tribes / Pleasuredome / Relax.
2004 performance, no Holly, but killer bass.

Love that.

I went to see them many years ago and I was stood so close to the PA that JJB’s bass made my hair move during the intro to Hanging around. That’s how I reminisce about it anyway wink

Killer bass line. Almost killed me trying to learn it.

ETA, I got as far as the first harmonics and realised I needed to get a life. I spent 10 years as a session bass player and never needed such technique! Nobody apart from Weather Report will ever need bass players to be such clever gits.

Bless him though, a troubled soul. I met him once and said the original and brilliant words "I love your work"

Doh!

Elegantly Wasted and/or Need You Tonight - INXS.
Incredibly simple, excessively effective.

As ever, needs playing on a big system to get the full effect. Bass is curious stuff...

Or check out this little gem, especially from about 1 min 15 sec. Fairies Wear Boots.
The best rock always needs a bit of swing. (See also INXS above.)

I try to stand near the speakers, I used to be able to feel the wind from them when Jet Black hit the bass drum when they opened with "Norfolk Coast". It doesn't seem as loud now. And no, it's not that I've gone deaf.
