'kin hell! That's a hard paper round!

I assume that's what Dream Theater are doing without LaBrie on vocals?

it was Portnoy, Levin and Rudess (before he joined Dream Theater) + a.n.other guitarist. John Petrucci was asked to join because other guitarists weren't available. it was because of Rudess's performances in Liquid Tension Experiment that he was asked to join Dream Theater (which he'd previously declined, to join Dixie Dregs).

Bill Withers - Lovely Day.

Jerry Knight on Bass.

Not the most technically difficult, in fact, it's really easy to play. But it's a great bass line.

…punk isn't supposed to be skilfully played…
It isn’t? Who says?
Joe Strummer?
Probably why The Clash sounded so ste.

Bass line here that "energises" a whole tune and just grows:-

(H/T to a Rick Beato vid for leading me to this)

I'd also forgotten how good Perry Farrell is on vox; like a modern-day Ozzy Osbourne

The bass line on ‘3 Days’ by Janes Addiction is a favourite of mine, probably second to ‘Gratitude’ by The Beastie Boys.

Not sure if he's been mentioned already but at the risk of once again revealing myself as an old fart, Glenn Cornick came up with some great, technical, bass lines in the early days of Jethro Tull, he was a very under rated player IMO

I’m the same with Weather Report. If I never hear Birdland again it’ll be too soon. Full respect to the musicians, obviously, but not my sort of thing.
Weather Report have loads of great pieces, I don't consider 'Birdland' to be one of them. It's pretty good the first five hundred times you hear it though. I used to play a live version as a warm-up though, it feels a little too familiar now.
