couple of good nights this week at Ronnie Scott's....
first off Gabriels as part of the Warchild charity Brits week. Great to see acts in venues generally 2 sizes smaller than their usual. Sat in the front row with Jacob belting it out right in front of me. Didn't get on stage until after 1am as this was after their regular gig earlier in the evening.
then Ego Ella May; British/Nigerian soul singer. Adapted her arrangements to suit the jazz venue and was wonderful live.

Also have tickets for PMJ at the Palladium in May, which should be something special, as it's their 10th Anniversary Tour.
Then Elbow at the O2 4 days after that..

Good man.
I've just booked for Liverpool after reading your post.
But didn't Mr Fish do this a few years ago ? He said he was going to stop doing any more music, then after a break, he started up again ? Ran out of money maybe ?
Not quite, he was winding down certainly. But this is definitely the last tour.I've just booked for Liverpool after reading your post.

He certainly seems to have come back in the last few years. For example, I saw him in Chester, in a small venue of around 200 people (pretty much a back room in a pub). That would have been around 2011. Then, over the years, in bigger and bigger venues. And now, at The Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool next year, 1700 people.MOBB said:
Just seen Polaris at Kentish Town forum
What a band, I think the best I’ve seen live
Also I think I’ve found a new band in Thornhill, another superb live act from down under ????
Fantastic gig, one of the best I've been to recently. The entire line up was awesome and my body is certainly still feeling it from being in the pit all night. What a band, I think the best I’ve seen live

hope you enjoy Ronnie's. It's a very different environment for live music, a nice balance to other gigs such as Echo & The Bunnymen last night! Also have tickets for PMJ at the Palladium in May, which should be something special, as it's their 10th Anniversary Tour.

not seen PMJ but like their stuff, look like they should be a good live show
Echo & The Bunnymen last night in Bristol.
enjoyed it but i've now ticked that box; band were very tight and Ian can still get through the vocals although clearly the passing of time hasn't been too kind on him.
chatted a lot but almost incomprehensible; yet was clearer when singing. I'm sure it was all very witty!
needed to split it into 2 sets which was a surprise for an hour and a half gig, then 2 encores to drag it out a bit more

Also got my first tickets at Ronnies for June for my 50th. I love a bit of jazz so were taking the train down for the weekend to enjoy the big smoke. It'll be a great way celebrate. Got VIP tickets for The Happy Mondays in Newcastle in a couple of weeks. They always put on a good show even if the big man forgets his lines sometimes
Robin Trower at the Islington Assembley Hall at the end of May.
Not really my bag but my mrs. was a fan back in the '70s. Will be good to see such a guitarist though.
Also a mate mentioned going to see Rock Bottom in July. A UFO trubute band playing at the Cart & Horses in Stratford which is a twenty minute walk away, so rude not to go for a few pints and some Metal.
Been revamped a couple of years back and lives on its history as being the birthplace of Iron Maiden, but I just remember it being the roughest, no go pub imaginable. It really was something else.

Been a busy few weeks.
Saw The Clockworks at the Boiler Room first, good up and coming Irish band.
Then it was Nouvelle Vague at 1865 in Southampton - I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were excellent, very entertaining live. A decent pint for under a fiver was a nice surprise, too!
Last Sunday, it was Editors at Southampton Guildhall and it reinforced my view that they're one of the best live bands around - As good as the first time I saw them here, even their support (Wings Of Desire) were pretty good.
Finally, I went to see Echo And the Bunnymen at the Academy in Bournemouth (always fun to visit there as it was a regular haunt in my early 20s, although a crap pint of over chilled IPA for £8 wasn't a nice surprise). I'd agree with WestBerks earlier remarks - McCulloch was a bit incoherent at times when chatting between songs, but didn't sound bad when singing. He's definitely, still got the distinctive sound of E&TB.
I'm not a massive fan and didn't know all the songs, but the ones I did sounded OK, but as with WB's comment, I think they're a 'one and done' for me.
We only got the one encore, unlike Bristol, though.
Coming up I've got the Clash tribute band, London Calling, at the end of March and that's it at the moment - I keep scanning the forthcoming gigs, but nothing's jumping out as must see yet.
