A programme on heavy metal which cunningly overlooked 95% of the rest of the meat: whilst it attempted to identify the point of Genesis it feebly caved in to the mainstream interpretation of which mass media invariably falls victim. Sabbath >> Maiden >> Peroxide >> Metallica.

No Steppenwolf ref, no Led Zep (if Communication Breakdown wasn't Mosh Station 1 then wtf is?), no Thin Lizzy, no (early) Aerosmith, (early) Kiss [only the best selling rock band on earth in the mid 70s], Skynryrd, UFO, Uriah Heep, early Rainbow, Rush, MOTORHEAD (!!!), Whitesnake, mk2 Sabbath, Saxon, Diamondhead {the band which gave you Metallica}, Megadeth, GnR and the morph into post grunge teeny bop crossover crap from which thank The Baron de Belleme, post traditionalist forms of Foodom, etc have arisen. They could have chucked in modern masterpieces from contemporary acts like Muse to show the spirit prevails to this day.

At least The Judean Pryex made a showing. Bah!
I tend to agree, but in the BBC's defence, it was only a one hour programme, and they had to make it a bit of a general overview for the people that were perhaps hearing it all for the first time. Metal (and all it's sub-categories) is now such a huge subject that maybe they should do a series on it, where they could cover more of the bands you mention. Now that WOULD be worth watching.

Depends on what you're into. Have a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/sevenages/ to get an idea of what each programme covers. If it's grunge you're after, programme 6 is the one for you (just don't expect in-depth coverage).

Hello all....
Did anyone see that prog about the birth of heavy metal last night. I think it was on 4?
pretty good show. how the Heavy metal sound and image came about. Interviews with Saberth, judas Priest, motley crew, metallic, Iron madin.
I thought it was funny that the origin of the metal stud wrist, waist and boots etc came from Judist Preist front man Rob Halford who got them from a Bondage shop just before a gig....he later...(much later) cofessed to be gay.

I thought that was the lead singer, who is also an airline pilot.

Not to mention Olympic bladesman and sometime penner of short stories: like the Leonardic Nimoyan, a multi-faceted creative individual.

My history teacher interviewed the band for his friends radio station and said he liked the drummer as he had the PHD. However he is a mentalcase so your prob right.

Bruce Dickinson graduated in History, but he doesn't have a Ph.D.
Listed as an Alumni of Queen Mary's University, London.
Nothing about Nicko being the Dr.

Brian May on the other hand is an honorary Dr. of Science, and has a degree in Astrophysics.
Recently finished his Ph.D that he stopped when Queen took off.

I cant get enough of this at the moment. I would normally think this sort of thing too modern and mainstream for me , but I love it!
