I think it may be better to encompass more things than just 'musicians'. People who are interested in all things audio/visual for example. I'd say the problem with introducing new forums is that you are always risking shooting yourself in the foot if not many people drop in on it much.

Oh no. No thanks, or it will be full of people asking which 5.1 system they should buy. Theres a world of difference between watching a performance, and actually creating the performance!

Limit it to musical instruments, discussion of playing said instruments, how to record performances, what guitar amps etc. No hifi please! smile

Yes I know all that, I just think that limiting a new forum too much may mean it dies on its arse.

yes It'd be like having students on a teachers forum.

Sorry Becs, but that is complete boocks. I can play guitar a bit shitly but I know a hell of a lot about music, live music production, reproduction etc. Music can be loved extensively by people who don't play an instrument, why should they be left out?

What would be the problem with someone asking what 5.1 system they should buy? Is it some sort of weird snobbery? They just want to get the best out of the performance created by you mystical talented pixies.

to buy this youd go to a tv/hi fi shop not a music shop so its a different field altogether.

music forum for musicians and their instruments, if you want surround sound discussions that should be with lcd/plasma topics.

Exactly. Its not snobbery, its no different to having a separate motorsport forum than the general gassing forum, or computer games vs computers.

Hifi forum = listening. Music forum = playing. Two completely different things.

I agree too. There are lots of threads about regarding what tv / hifi to buy so perhaps it'd be worth having a forum for that too. I think putting the playing of musical instruments in with listening to music / watching HDTV etc would negate any benefit in having the forum in the first place.

The problem I find with existing guitar forums is that they're either elitist and snobby or they're full of teenagers talking txt spk. A nice grown up musicians forum with the kind of people usually foundon PH would be a welcome addition I think. smile

Might as well chip into this thread as well as the other one (buried somewhere in P&P).

Bass player meself, but strong interest in recording & production as well. Logic & MOTU are my weapons of (hobson's) choice there.

Which, it should be said, does stray dangerously close to hi-fi if you let it...
