Is anyone else starting to get pissed off with 'This video has been removed due to Terms of Use Violation' or 'This video has been removed due to copyright claim by a third party'? How long until the only stuff left on the internet is the ste generated by individuals who think that what they're 'blogging' is worthwhile or of any interest to anyone? The irony is that leaving clips of songs or videos on sites like YouTube could introduce more people to that particular artist. It's not like I'll tolerate the ste quality of a YouTube clip if I like the music - I'll go and buy the album or certainly investigate the artist more.

I agree, but having said that I wouldn't be entirely bothered if all YouTube consisted of was artists like this..

A BRILLIANT example - I went and bought two of Andy McKee's albums from the Candyrat website as a result of listening to a couple of his tracks on YouTube. That's $20 in his pocket - from only one of the several million who've seen his clips. If a fraction of the people do what I did and buy, he'll make a fortune in no time at all.

Not sure if anyone has posted any Eels before but try this for maximum lumpiness:

Dead of Winter - Live

From the Electro-Shock blues album which he wrote soon after his father died, his sister committed suicide and his mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Listen to the lyrics and you'll see who he's singing about.

I sort of rediscovered Eels last year. Having bought Novacaine for the Soul years and years ago I just didn't realise what a prolific and high quality song writer he is.

I haven't checked all (or indeed many) of the unlabelled Youtube links so not sure if any of these have turned up, but they work for me:

Peter Gabriel - Here Comes The Flood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Vc3z2HbTlA

Pete again, Don't Give Up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiCRZLr9oRw

Splender - I Think God Can Explain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoiPWFh3rik

Not sure if the quality of those is any good, got no speakers on office PC.

Eleven - Howling Book (stay away from the razor blades..):

Tracy Chapman - Fast Car (already mentioned)

Shakespeare's Sister - Stay

I cried like a little girl the first time I saw that.
Indeed, the one and only song I can think of atm that has that effect.
Echo all of that. One of the few covers to improve on the original (apologies Lord S, I guess we differ there).

There's some stunning stuff on here - songs I'd forgotten, songs I'd never heard before, and some old favourites, Hurt not the least of which.

For me, one song came to mind as soon as I saw the title. And given my predeliction for rock/metal and high bpms, this is quite unusual. But it's one of my favourite pieces of music.

Satie - Gymnopodie #1. Probably the most elegant piece ever written.

(in searching for a YouTube without cheesy video, I found this, his #3, with some nice photos slideshowing in the background: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iHEpuj96bCg&feat... )
