Just ignore that this is Charlotte Church for a second: I defy anyone not to feel a bit gaymotional listening to this:

The only lump that brought to my throat was a lump of what I've just eaten.

You've neither a soul or any new gags!

Due to past experiences this gets me every single time, but it's also good for getting you through tough times...

If I had to pick a song that brought a lump to my throat I would have to say either Jason Mraz - You and I or REM Nightswimming - Birds and all!

I have real difficulty listening to Bridge Through Troubled Water. I had a pretty acute episode of teenaged existential crisis linked to some nasty medical stuff when I was 14/15 and did a lot of listening and moping...

Johnny Cash Hurt is an amazing song

This duet with his daughter runs it very close.

Tragically, and almost ironically, his wife died four months before he did...

Another vote here for 'Bright Eyes' and also for 'Everybody Hurts'

Plus my own additions:

Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JDTAqsMNEM - another one of those that was a poignant time of life

and also:

Hanson (sorry paperbag) - With you in your dreams

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vvWOATSiBw&mod... - skip to about 1m10 in, as it's the live version. The album version is far more powerful, and dieselnut is under strict orders to play it at my funeral.

abridged lyrics said:
If I'm gone when you wake up please don't cry.
And if I'm gone when you wake up don't ask why
Don't look back at this time as a time of heartbreak and distress
Remember me, remember me, cause Ill be with you in your dream

Don't cry, I'm with you; don't cry, I'm by your side
Don't cry, I'm with you; don't cry, I'm by your side

And though my flesh is gone,
I'll still be with you at all times
And though my body is gone,
I'll be there to comfort you at all times

I don't want you to cry and weep,
I want you to go on living your life
I'm not sleeping an endless sleep,
Cause in your heart you all have good times
