can i ask a question, can you name some DJ's for us ?
I was at Sonar in Barcelona last summer so could probably name a few I would still compare a decent DJ to a conductor - whilst a DJ doesn't use scripted material (music sheets) he also doesn't mix "live" musicians. I'm still in the "no" camp.
Most conductors would disagree that they don't add anything to the music.
Proper conductors are absolute masters at rehearsing an orchestra. They've got the experience to know exactly what to say, how to say it, and who to say it to in order to get the orchestra sounding amazing.
I've also yet to meet a "proper conductor" who can't glance at an A3 page of orchestra score - all the music for all the instruments laid out all together in one mass of notation - and hear what it will sound like in their head.
They're not just stick waving lunatics.

firstly im not asking anyone to see who can name the most DJ's, thats a little tedious, i was trying to see if you knew of "propper DJ's" who go the extra nine yards and create their own music based on other peoples tracks, and could identify what they are doing, thus appreciate their musician credibilities.in answer to the above, you'll find all propper DJ's will at some point in their set "mix live" just you cant tell and thats the clever bit, if you screw up a little people will know, if you get it right it just sounds like it should be there in the first place, hence you cant notice it unless you have the tracks they are manipulating.
