You can purchase a CITES license - just add it to the cost of the guitar?

Can any of you guitar gurus help me please. I've haven't picked up this guitar for 20 years and not sure whether it's worthwhile selling and what it could possibly be worth.

It's a USA Jackson Soloist, neck through body guitar with custom paint (not everyone's cup of tea!) and mother of pearl inlays etc. It's a pretty early one, number 250. Still plays well, straight neck.

Are these worth anything and any demand for them?

Thanks for any advice.

Naturally you will have already tried the various means of selling (eBay etc) to see if there's a market in that model, so I will guess that there isn't. So you will have to set a price yourself and see if you get any interest. Have you looked in to getting it resprayed? A plain colour would make it a lot more attractive I should think.

If it was mine, and I was keen to sell, and didn't want to shell out for a respray I think I would try it at enough under £1000 to make it tempting. Maybe £800. But only you can say if you would be prepared to let it go for that kind of money, otherwise, be guided by what you would be prepared to let it go for, and that's your asking price.

Seems so, but the system looks cumbersome. And the risk is that the guitar is impounded - or worse - destroyed!

Just found these guys - http://www.sellmyjem.com/cites-2017-rosewood.html - that offer a service that might help. But it looks like you can't get the paperwork until you've got the buyer's details, too.

But it does seem that travelling with the guitar obviates the need for a certificate/licence. So maybe I could take a long weekend holiday at the same time?

(Just have to remember not to travel with United Airlines.)

Thanks for your input. To be honest I haven't tried to sell or even researched it yet, I just saw this thread and it reminded me I still had the guitar! £800 sounds pretty decent, may give eBay a go. Cheers

There's an identical one on there now, Ebay US for twice that price. (Of course, that's not an actual sold price, etc).

Ignore singlecoil's BS: the single most value-harming thing you can do to any guitar is refinish it! (Unless you are called Clapton.)

Thanks for your kind remarks about my advice. I took 'custom paint' to mean that it had been done after the guitar had left Jackson. If it was factory job then I would have expected it to be described as such. My advice was given in that light.

I own a Les Paul, a Tele, an SG, a Duesenberg Caribou & I've never found a guitar I like playing more than a Fender Stratocaster. These things are very indivdual, but for me, they're the ultimate do anything guitar, beautifully thought out machines so well designed for the benefit of the player in a multitude of small ways that add up to brilliance. I love them to bits.

I'm gassing over a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe at the minute, having first fell in love with one about 6 or 7 years ago. I played one in a shop and should have bought it, because it felt right but didnt so hoping that I find one with the same feeling!

Would like to get myself another Strat though. My first guitar was a red Korean Squier from around 1992/93. I sold it through lack of use some years ago, but wish i'd kept it. I'd probably go with a USA Fender now, or maybe even just another Squier but in the Classic Vibe range but it would have a Rosewood neck instead of maple.

The question as to what it's worth will depend on the paintjob. Given that it's an early number, it would be a prime candidate to be a custom shop job with unique graphics. However, the artwork doesn't look up to the standards of the Jackson custom shop to me, so I'm guessing this has been repainted at some point after it left the factory.

If it's a custom shop job, it'll fetch a good price as they're quite collectible. If it isn't, get it refinished by a good luthier or flog it as it is now.

That is beautiful, but is the pickguard removable? (My pet hate on LPs - pickguards).

For the option of flying with a guitar, make sure you take the same case out with you as you return....

Thanks, yes it's all original. I actually won it in a Jackson competition and it was sent to me directly from the factory, I was 17 and over the moon! I was never a fan of the paint myself and covered the thing with stickers when I gigged with it.

Although I don't play anymore I do still keep an eye on this thread and there are some stunning guitars on show, keep it up chaps!

There will be a Jackson collector/completist or two out there, so find the relevant forum and advertise it there. Might take a while to sell unless you price it keenly from the start.

(I also have a guitar that has an embarassing paint job, and it is very slow to sell.)

It is removable which is nice, however I do prefer it on I must say.

I picked up my 1976 Flying V for £3500 I think, but having just had a look on reverb, they go as low as £350 (!!!), but most seem to fit in the £1000-1500 area.
What's reverb (in this context!)?
