Lets look at our guitars thread
Discussion
Picked this bad boy up for a very cheap (two digits!) price a few days ago. Damn what a fantastic bargain. Jackson Dinky 7 string.. Its the entry level model which retails at a mere 300ish new. It's in very good shape and has had the original pickups replaced with DiMarzio ones. I've never played a seven string before but its actually not the headfk I feared it might be, in fact it makes playing certain keys a breeze when before I really had to think about it.... and now I am seriously into the idea of an 8 string haha
Around 20 years ago I enjoyed messing about with various electric guitars, and then for unknown reasons just stopped playing. I recently got the itch to make a noise again, in no small way encouraged by some of the clearly very talented people posting on this thread showing off their beautiful guitars.
Then a couple of weeks ago I saw this strat on ebay for a very decent price and just couldn't resist:
Yes, I know, yet another dull strat! Paired with a little 5w Blackstar amp that I picked up from PMT, I'm rather pleased with it!
I have no illusions that I'm secretly SRV reincarnated and just need to brush up, I'm rubbish, but I'm really enjoying myself making a din and wonder why I didn't do this years ago!
Any recommendations for online resources or particularly good books etc?

Dave Murray signature? If so then they're Seymour Duncans (unless changed). Looks like a great thing, how's it play? Thanks for the recommendations Lunarscope and smn!

I'm the same. 20 years without picking up a guitar. Went down the DJ/Producer path for a bit. Then decided to give guitar another whirl and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did previously. I've learned more about different styles of music since I was doing the DJ thing and am approaching the instrument in a slightly different way than before. I watch a lot of lessons on YouTube. There are some fantastic things out there for free. I also watch bass and even keyboard videos as I am approaching the music from a more holistic point of view than simply guitar mechanics.
I watch a lot of guitar tuition from Claus Levin, Fareed Haque, Grant Stinnett, Ben Eller, David Walliman and Rick Beato to name but a few. I've also learned a lot of stuff from bass players that I apply to guitar, notably Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey, Scott Devine. Oh and for general music theory stuff, Adam Neely is very interesting. Techicial but inspiring.

I'll have a look at some of those guys; as you say, the resource on the 'tube for learning new stuff on guitar these days is fantastic. I'm not keen on Eller's teaching style (although I did pick up the intro for Tubular Bells from one of his vids), but do like Walliman's stuff. Another decent 'tube channel is "Music Is Win". It's an awful name, but the lad is very good, not too technical and plays some very nice PRS kit. For more guitar theory stuff, Steve Stine has proved insightful. Based on his vids, I recently started writing a tune in Gmaj where the verse doesn't use any G chords at all. This is important for someone like me who spent 20-odd years largely playing electric blues and minor pentatonic noodling!I watch a lot of lessons on YouTube. One of mine. I briefly posted this before, but a closer look
Not many of these around & that's a shame as it's fully loaded. Locking tuners, a P90 & a Humbucker. All the hardware including the pickups is designed & built by Duesenberg & the quality of the guitar is first class. It's Alder with a set neck & one detail I love is the saw tooth motif. It's on everything from the head stock to the pickup selector to the pickguard. It's a very well thought out guitar & sounds great, especially on the humbucker.

Anyone can play guitar ...
But only one in a million can do it really well.Something else I've learnt ... I'm not him.
To listen to me, you'd swear it was a guitar being playing by a chimpanzee wearing ski mitts, but if you could see me play without sound (which is probably for the best), you'd see an average guy making weird faces and having the time of his life pretending he's on stage with Ozzy and frequently banging his elbow on the wardrobe in the spare room. I do it only for the joy and satisfaction it brings me.
