The strings it came with, were horrible though. I chopped them off within hours and fitted some Elixer's and wow, now it is a totally different beast, and a joy to play. I understand new hand built guitars like this need a year or so for the wood to 'open up' and get the true tone, so if this is the 'worst' it will ever sound right now, then I am a very happy chappy !!

Awww, crap. It turns out I brought another guitar on Friday night, breaking my self-imposed 'one a year' rule.
It had been on the wish list for a long time and it was a good price. When it comes I will reveal all.... (well, may be just the guitar!)
Nice one, Congratulations. It had been on the wish list for a long time and it was a good price. When it comes I will reveal all.... (well, may be just the guitar!)
JEM7 Root Beer?
JS1 Chrome Boy?
:-)
It's arrived, been checked over and put away until I 'get' it officially.
Initial thoughts - my god it's a heavy thing. Really beautifully made. The neck feels as wide as my Universe 7 string, and much fuller in the hand than a normal Jem - but I didn't go back to back to confirm this. Overall it feels like a Jem +5%, but will confirm this later on....

Have just received notification that my first 'proper' guitar has arrived, had a starter Squier bullet strat but been pining after an LP for a long while now. Not being able to justify a Blueberry Burst Gibson HP Les Paul, I've settled on an Epiphone 1960s tribute LP with the Gibson pickups.
Not on par with some here but cannot wait to go and get it after work
Pics - loving it, haven't put it down since I got in to be honest.

I've got the same one, although my top is a much faded blue which looks purple in some lights. Its a beautiful guitar though, its been set up lovely, and the tone is superb.
I've seen a lot of different shades whilst looking for reviews. I wasn't initially wowed opening the case but in the right light it's really growing on me. Seems to be set up well and sustains for days compared with what I'm used to. A lovely looking Les Paul indeed. Lucky man!
Speaking of Les Pauls, what's the general view of the Epiphone Les Paul Studio? I managed to acquire a brand new one in ebony which I'm trying to sell (tried eBay and Facebook's Marketplace) and there is absolutely no interest in it, even though I'm offering it for a lot less than RRP.
Standards seem to sell quite quickly but not a sniff for the Studio, even though it's 'mechanically' the same.
Any thoughts?

For me personally it's the name. I will always take a Fender over a Squire, a Gibson over an Epiphone. Am I a snob, with delusions of grandeur? Definitely.
All though I loathe Andertons (a long story about very poor customer service), Chappers and The Captain do some brilliant videos, (especially the blindfold challenges). Gibson Vs Epiphone was one such, cheapest Gibson Vs most expensive Epiphone - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsL6X8uG9-U
Anyway, I hope you get to sell it for a price that works for you.

That blue looks great.
I'd heard that the best Epiphones are the older korean ones. Got one on eBay but it sounded a bit muddy so swapped the electrics out and it sound cracking, just as clear as my original SG. Plus because it cost ~£300 rather than £3k I'm much less worried about damaging it! I have not yet compared with a real LP in the flesh and not under any illusions that it'll be better but suspect it'll hold it's own. Certainly the thing holding me back is not the quality of the guitar!

Now eyeing up Solar guitars, think next time there's an offer on I'll be making a purchase.

I bought an Epiphone Les Paul on eBay recently, it was listed with a wiring fault and I got it for £91 (and a 90 minute round trip). Turned out to be a 2004 made at the Unsung factory in Korea. Wiring fault was due to the fact that it had been fitted with two Seymour Duncan pickups, a PAF in the neck position and one I haven't identified yet. The frets are a bit low bit that doesn't matter as I bought it specifically to have a guitar I can refret for a series of YouTube videos. I'm thinking I did quite well there, as most of the guitars on eBay are way overpriced.Don1 said:

Ah, you misunderstand me slightly. It's not a Gibson versus Epiphone thing. All though I loathe Andertons (a long story about very poor customer service), Chappers and The Captain do some brilliant videos, (especially the blindfold challenges). Epiphone Les Paul Standards sell easily on eBay and for strong money, but Studios not so much. Curious. Agreed on the Andertons videos though. Very entertaining generally.

That's a bargain, think mine was £175 which was the cheapest for a while and then paid for Seymour Duncans new. Complete rewire kit was only about £25 from Axetec. To be honest if there wasn’t such a gulf in pricing between a Gibson and the Epi I’d have probably gone for an LP standard HP, but at 6x the cost I really couldn’t justify it, but I’ve only just got back into playing. This apparently is a long tenon neck which is the closest you can get to a Gibson and the pickups sound good (but I doubt I’d know the difference between the Epiphone buckers and the 57 Gibson’s mine has)
Interested about Andertons, love their videos and if I hadn’t got such a good deal on this I was going to stop by when I came back to England and get one from them specifically (and knowing my luck play a Gibson as well and get roped into that) - maybe dodged a bullet.
As Chappers would say though mine is the correct “without pick guard” spec, funny story in the cheap Gibson/expensive epiphone video
