I guess you chaps are talking about electric guitars yes ?
I use a lot of alternative tunings, but on my acoustic guitar ...
Can't speak for anyone else, but I was talking electric. I've dabbled with DGDGBD but can take it or leave it TBH. i prefer it without the bottom string, a la Keef.

Well the bottom string on a guitar is low enough already, and if you take it down any further, it no longer sounds like a guitar, more like musical murder.

(But without the musical bit.)
You're talking absolute ste.

You are saying every song played on a guitar with the thickest string tuned lower than E sounds like musical murder?

Evangelion, pictured, clinging to the musical ideals of the 1950s hehe

He may find it upsetting to know that a huge number of songs since the inception of the guitar and indeed, stringed instruments themselves, have been played in a variety of tunings that deviate from the holy E concert tuning, probably even some that he may unknowingly enjoy.

Actually, I enjoy very little rock music and virtually no pop, so knowingly or unknowingly, I don't suppose it will make any difference one way or the other.

Are you popular at parties?

So what genre of music do you enjoy?

Any chance we can get back to posting pics of our guitars, regardless of what tuning they're in? It's getting close to Christmas/new gear day, and I'm looking forward to seeing what we've all treated ourselves to in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

While I'm sure it's really important who "wins" this discussion, it's making the thread look untidy. Start a new thread, it might be a really important subject that deserves its own space to grow.

Or not.

Anyone with me?

Godin LGX SA - the synth access with Roland GR55 is a lot of fun (only in private though! Can't imagine using it with an audience)

Yamaha Silent Guitar - awesome fun with headphones. This one is steel string but the gut string versions are really good too.

For those times when you want to be reminded just how hard an instrument can be to play - Chapman Stick Railboard (10 string version). It's a stereo instrument with pickups for both bass and treble sides. Also has a synth pickup which is fun triggering VSTs.
