speaking of les pauls.....
my 1996 les paul standard has been putting in a shift lately....back in the recording studio after a 20 year hiatus and still sounding huge.
these days i'm running it through a boss sg-1 floor bank and a blackstar digital amp rather than my old marshall jcm 900 valve stack...i'm actually getting a better sound from the blackstar!!
took my usa '74 strat with me and even though it's got a dimarzio humbucker on the back it still hasn't got anywhere near the weight, presence or sustain of the gibson....
here's a little vid of some tracking... mix and master this week...

Well it was NGD on Sunday, but unfortunately not for me.
It's my BIL's 40'th next year so decided the family would all chip in and get him something that I know he would never probably spend his own money on. He's a massive Metallica fan and nearly wept when he saw that I'd purchased an Explorer for myself last year. Spotted this online whilst we were on the train down and decided to pop by and give it a play. It does play wonderfully, lovely action, pickups sound great (but then was also playing through a 3.5k Mesa MK5 which helped). Nearly unmarked as well.
Thanks to the folks at GuitarGuitar in Glasgow as was a pleasant purchase experience and very helpful staff.
Just hope he likes it!

Stunning guitar, not an axe to play sitting down I would think.
Happy you found the staff at the Glasgow branch of Guitar Guitar helpful and pleasant, not my experience at all, monosyllabic, aloof
and lacking basic social skills.
How about employing people with a nice personality and less tattoos.
Rant over, nice geetar.

I bought a Sunn Mustang Strat in ~1993, as a teenager, and it served me well as a very (below) average player through college and Uni where I was in a band that only performed when drunk.
Anyway, fast forward over a quarter of a century and im working for a music company, surrounded by guitars amps and pedals, and its gradually rubbed off on me, and I NEEDED to buy a tele - as close to the look of Jeff Buckley's one.
On Friday I received this, via mates rates from Fender - a Vintera 50's Modified in butterscotch blonde:
Paired with a Katana50 borrowed from work, I played a bit over the weekend, and I remember now how sore your fingertips get when learning...
That is gorgeous. They are the replacement for the Baja Tele right? I've got an American Srandard which lovely, but has never quite scratched the itch in the right way for me. Been seriously considering a Baja for a while, now these have appeared. Well, I don't have much to compare it to, and im not enough of an expert to point out pros and cons, but I do think its lovely, and I think it feels nice to play (in my hamfisted way).Yep, "Vintera" is the new "Baja".
As for Amps, the Katana50 has gone back to work, and ive borrowed a Katana Air instead (the funky little wireless one), and an RC-1 looper pedal, so been having some fun with those.

Did you know that the one Buckley played was on loan from someone else?Yep, "Vintera" is the new "Baja".

I was having a 'Grace' moment last night, such a fine guitar player (him not me!).

Yes, I found that out not long ago - an artist friend of his. His family gave it back to her after his memorial, but sounds like she ended up needing the money and sold it. It was sold again recently for something crazy like $60,000... apparently the guitar itself was nothing particularly special - lightly modified - but goes to show what you can do with an average guitar when you have talent.I was having a 'Grace' moment last night, such a fine guitar player (him not me!).
So glad that I actually got to see him at Glastonbury in '95...
I have wondered about getting a mirrored scratchplate to complete the look...

Currently modding a Tokai twin of this for one of my mates, Gibby pup in the neck and a hot Tonerider in the bridge, both with coil splits via mini toggle switches and a stacked pot to provide separate tone controls. It's my BIL's 40'th next year so decided the family would all chip in and get him something that I know he would never probably spend his own money on.
