Slightly OT but does anyone have any recommendations for guitar stands. I need 3 or 4 to start with I think. I was interested in the wall mounts but now I think I want individual stands that I can move to different rooms.
Cheers.

Can’t go wrong with Hercules stands IMHO, secure and nice quality.

Another vote for Hercules stands. I have 3 wall mounts and 3 floor standing. For the price they're brilliant.

Another thumbs up for Northwest Guitars - I've bought loads of bits from them and they always give good service.

It certainly can be very satisfying putting guitars together instead of just buying them; if the manufacturers don't build what you want ... no problem!

Here's one of my recent builds; anonymous eBay Tele neck with Vanson vintage-style tuners, body from an Aria STG-003, with added steel trem block and roller bridge saddles, scratchplate and everything on it came from a previous project - US Strat pickups (probably '80s) and three pull-push pots: one to activate the bridge and neck pups, so you can get all seven combinations, one to put the neck and bridge in series instead of parallel, and one to put the middle pup out of phase.

I call the colour 'faded Burgundy Mist' - and ignore all my friends who try to tell me it's pink!

That’s definitely my kind of guitar. Do you play it often? I would!

Occasionally it should be played a lot more than it is and could do with a set up.
It's winter 72/73 build

They are brilliant unless the person setting them up doesn't put the legs out properly and your Les Paul falls off...

User error though, the stands and hangers are great.

No. Stop right there.

First, find out if any of your guitars have a nitro/similar finish. If so, find a suitable stand; most are not.

(ask me how I know)

In the Andertons videos they always use Hercules Stands and they feature plenty of posh nitro finished guitars on their channel. So I would assume the Hercules are fine.

I was checking out Strats a few years ago and I noticed on one of them the nitro had "melted" where it was left in contact with the stand :-(

Assume nothing if you care about your guitar's finish. Search Hecules' product pages for "nitro" or "nitrocellulose" and you get no matches. You have to go look in the FAQ. They say that they tested the stands with lots of guitars, but then go on to say:

"However, each instrument manufacturer has their own formulation of Nitrocellulose, with varying proportions of the chemical agents involved. There are thousands of variations of lacquer in use in today’s instrument manufacturing processes, making it impossible to test them all. Therefore, to maintain the level of respect and support your valuable instrument deserves, we recommend you refer to your instrument's owner’s manual for more information regarding the proper storage of your instrument."

In other words: we think it'll be OK, but you can't blame us if something weird happens to your particular guitar.

By the time you notice there's something odd, it's too late.

I was chatting to a guitar tech about that and he reckons it's only new guitars that suffer the nitro finish reacting, that once they're a few years old then it's settled and won't react. No idea how true that is, are the old korean epiphones nitro finished as mine has no marks, but I assume it's polyurethane. My only Gibson has cotton pads on the rack as I'd read it could damage the nitro smile

If I wanted to keep a guitar in contact with a stand or hanger for a long time I would probably wrap the contact areas with polythene foam. It's often used in packaging as a protective layer in direct contact with the item being packed.
