Just thought I would post to say if anyone is considering seeing the above at an Imax cinema over the coming couple of weeks that I highly recommend it.

I have seen the Stones a couple of times and seen a few concert DVDs of theirs and of course others, but this really is a whole new experience. It is difficult to explain it, as there isn't really another artistic parallel for the format that Scorsese has so deftly put this in.

It just looks like a 'film'. Its hard to describe. Instead of the standard 'audience' view which is common in this type of thing I would say that there are very few shots like that. The 16 cameramen are a 'dream team' of the best in the world with proper, real film in them. It just looks astonishing.

The type of views you move from range from shots from the stage, to those that you would never expect. There are moments that can only be described as art and sheer magic.

As for the sound, it is without a doubt the best I have heard on this format. I am a stickler for this as a sound engineer. The mix is superb. There is also an interesting twist where usually on concert DVDs you get the audience perspective, so a standard CD mix with a bit of reverb on. None of that here. Full, and in your face like a studio recording. Secondly, and interestingly the mix changes with the camera angle. For example during an extended 'jamming outro' the camera moves focus to the playing and smiles of Ronnie to Keith and so does the subtle focus of the mix and panning to fix the sound of their guitars to them. The best way of describing it is that you are given free reign to walk around the stage and pick up a unique experience as if you were there.

I am both a music and film buff, and this is just sheer mastery of both, technically and artistically.

I don't know if this is going to get a bluray or DVD release, but at the IMax it is superb. Just get the seats at the back or you wont be able to follow the action without moving your head all the time...
