You might like Wiliam Orbit's go at Barber's Adagio for Strings (not the version with the beat, that was naff)

You are right, the music in that first clip was a very modern take on "classical" and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Some 20th century composers wrote some pretty good tunes (Elgar is 20th Century, as is Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Shostakovic, and Stravinsky for example).

Whatever.

The style of music in that first clip is more akin to the modern "minimalist" composers such as Philip Glass and Arvo Part.

Examples:

Philip Glass - http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-4037956671724274895&q=glass+violin+concerto&total=17&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=4

Arvo Part - http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=4814716836625378676&q=arvo+part&total=198&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

I'll be the first to admit that they are acquired tastes, but eyelikethem!

HTH.

Thanks I really like the Philip Glass one. I usualy like anything that builds up. also the violin towards the end(think thats what it is) playing the same thing in a kind of loop just getting louder very nice. Ill take a look at his other stuff.

Adagio for strings I know from Platoon although I like it and I see the similarities for some reason its not something I could listen to.
Cannot explain why.
