Includes Turnkey.. Didnt know they were linked, but to be honest, my only surprise was that this didnt happen years ago. Never had good service from that place.. Roll on the clear out sale!!

I wondered about this when I went past the one in Bristol on Monday and it was all shuttered up!

If you go in knowing what you want you could get good deals there.

any ideas about finding out when any such 'clearance sale' might start?

(sad though it is that these folks are being put out of work an' all..)

I was reading more about this on the SoS forums last night. Its quite sad really. A lot of staff in stores and head office lost their jobs with no warning whatsoever. Most of the stores have shut, and the few that are remaining open will have the stock from the closed stores transferred to the open ones. So perhaps no clear out sale!?

Im not familiar with Sound Control stores, but had been to Turnkey a few times. Bunch of muppets in there, and was a pretty depressing place as music shops go. Good riddance to Turnkey and its gormless staff, but I feel sorry for the staff from the other stores..

The one in Milton Keynes was still open last weekend.

Mind you, they were never the cheapest of music shops, and never seemed open to offers or deals

Hmmm, there goes my upcoming feature in their magazine I suspect.
Will need to make a few calls to find out what is going on.

Blimey yikes

Done quite a bit of business with Sound Control and Turnkey - Sound Control because they're local and convenient, and Turnkey because their prices are so competitive. I wouldn't rate either as exceptional on the service side of things but they were reasonable enough. It was always great having a big music shop nearby with just about everything you could imagine in stock frown

Just got an e mail from Dolphin Music, entitled Breaking News. Basically stating that they are sorry for the demise of Soundcontrol et al, offering a helpline but that they have put on extra staff and will match any price offered by the now defunct Soundcontrol and Turnkey.

Are Dolphin part of the same company?

No, don't think so.

Unless 'company' is the correct name for a group of vultures... smile

I didn't think so either. Hence it is a bit of a cheap stunt what Dolphin have just done IMHO

Here in Newcastle we have Sound Control and Sounds Live virtually within spitting distance of each other. Service and help from Sounds Live is and always has been FAR superior from my experience, hence they seem to be striving forward with business over recent times. No surprise really that Sound Control are having problems, poor store layout, not much kit (keyboard/technology wise) for demo-ing in store, keyboard department is pushed upstairs into a tiny cramped room.

Sounds Live seem far more passionate and 'into' their stuff, genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful from my experience.

Sorry for the staff and all that at Sound Control, but no real surprise.
