Been giving Metallica's "Garage Days II" a reblast. Revisiting that trad metal sound but any decent old style metal bands out there that are new? I mean trad heavy style and not this Emo ste that seems to have taken hold these days? I am looking for stuff in the vein of Pantera, Metallica, Sabbath... must be some of you out there tuning into decent trad but NEW metal bands. If so, who are they? I'll go buy 'em.

Could try Evile. Sounds a bit like early Slayer.

I thought 'Contraband' was very good but the second album 'Libertad' was a bit country/folk for my liking.

The latest Trivium album is quite Metallica-esque.

+1 -- Early Slayer sounds very much like early Metallica.

If you want a bible of speed metal, it has to be 'Decade of Aggression' - it's a Slayer live album, well worth a listen.

You could try a band called Corrosion Of Conformity they are kind of similar, in fact James Hetfield sings on one of their tracks.

Just read the bit about new bands, they aren't exactly new!

Bought Down II for the drive down to Le Mans last week. Just as good as the first Down album from a few years back.

On the lookout for Damageplan on the cheap. Anything Anselmo does tends to be nice and raw.

For a different slant on Metallica, get the S&M album. All their greatest hits performed live with the full 92 piece San Francisco Philharmonic orchestra as accompaniment. Absolutely knockout sound and I find it difficult to listen to normal Metallica now!
