Good call! The material he did with Steve Vai was incredible, and the Retinal Circus/Epicloud stuff is in my all time favourite list.

No mention of Brian Johnson or Geddy Lee, yet they are from two of the biggest selling Rock bands of all time ever.
Geddy Lee?

Pavement - Stereo @1.36: Stephen Malkmus - "What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy." A squirrel - "I know him and he does."hehe

Oh god yes Steve Marriott. What a voice. What a waste. Anyone who doesn't know of him should track down Black Coffee on you tube.
Or the Small Faces (1966) version of Whole Lotta LoveYou Need Loving. smile

I’m not averse to Geddy Lee. The first LP I ever bought was Fly by Night by Rush (I wanted 2112, but FbN was on special offer).

Skin - Skunk Anansie, so much power and range
Corey Taylor - Stone Sour / Slipknot, incredible voice especially on his Stone Sour ballads such as Through Glass and his cover of Wicked Game
Tom Petty - Nice tone to his voice and I love the Travelling Wilburys
Van Morrison - Great distinctive voice
Freddie Mercury - What a range
Stevie Nicks - Fleetwood Mac, some great songs that show off her voice

As a metal fan and long time Maiden nut, Bruce Dickinson probably takes the crown for me.

Dio had an amazing voice as did Chris Cornell and Miles Kennedy as mentioned has quite a range too.

I read an article once that explained how technical Mike Patton from Faith No More has an extremely good vocal range. Great band too \m/

Off the top of my head, some of my faves

Jim Morrison - for the sheer power
Stevie Nicks - Incredible voice, both in terms of power and style
Ronny James Dio - One of the best ever in metal imo
Mike Patton - for sheer all round vocal ability and range - he has it all.
Chino Moreno - uniqueness and range of styles
Darroh Sudderth - Astounding vocal range, possibly even better than Patton. Practically unheard of but check out Fair To Midland
Rody Walker - another with outstanding range, but tends to stick to the higher registers
Benji Webbe - Ragga style! I just love that there's a singer like Benji out there in the rock scene.

As a parody band they probably get overlooked for "the best..." whatever, but damn Micheal Starr can absolutely belt 'em out:
