Saw it last night and what a disapointment. The first 40 minutes were excellent, then rather large holes started to appear in the plot and the film petered out. Al Gore must have loved it...

Am I right in thinking there was a 1960s or so film with this sort of title? So is this a re-make? Or am I utterly wrong?

yes, it's a rehash of an old film (much like a lot of hollywoods output these days).

Saw a trailer for it. The old film was intelligent and thoughtful. The trailer made the new film look like a typical "AMERICA, fk YEAH" movie.

I love the original film, the message was about nuclear proliferation. For the new one, as I understand it, they they have dumped the warning about nukes, and are now here to warn us all about Climate change and put Al Gort in charge in a big robot suit.

Klaatu Barada Nikto.

OMG - i've just figured it out!

That was the words used in Evil Dead III- Army of Darkness by Ash to summon spirits or something from the Necromoninicon!

I love easter eggs!

Back on topic,

The day the earth stopped (NOT STOOD STILL!)

not only is there a big remake of the original, but there is also a crappy remake released this year also.
Although i haven't watched any as far as i know, the '51 version would probably be what i'd be more interested in, as 1950's sci-fi needs to have the correct vintage.

They are also the names of Jabba's guards in Return of the Jedi.

The original DTESS and When Worlds Collide are my favourite films of that era and two of my favourite scifi films fullstop.

Why did anyone expect this to be a good film?

Did anyone see the ghastly remake of War Of The Worlds and think 'Gee I like what they've done here, I hope they remake all classic sci-fi'?
