Aimee Mann - each of her six solo albums is better than the previous one, and the first one 'Whatever' from '92 was pretty damn good in the to start with. Got a voice like a cross between Karen Carpenter and Chrissie Hynde and writes some sublime songs. They build in layers slowly from basic acoustic intros to full on without losing the melody. Great stuff...
