I have most of Sandy Denny's recordings. She wrote some great songs and did some lovely recordings of traditional songs ("Bruton town" in particular).

Anyone mentiond Melissa Etheridge yet?
Oh yes, forgot about her. Very good. smile

Been listening to Tegan & Sara for the last few days... very good too.
Oh yes, Tegan and Sara are exceptionally quirky. "Living Room" is a highlight. Have a look on youtube for the making of "The Con" dvd extracts - really interesting stuff.

Noone's mentioned Mama Cass? She had a great voice. Not sure if she wrote her own songs though.

Also would like to add Veruca Salt and Loreena McKennitt to the list. But to answer the original question, you aren't alone, I've been listening to Kate Bush and Tori Amos since I was a kid.

Joan Osborne.

Unusual setting, but check the voice.

Dolores O'Riordan too. What an incredible performer. Two versions of same song, but what a song.

yes

3 pages and no-one has mentioned Alison Krauss! We'll might as well be me. Corinne Bailey Rae is a fantastic singer too.
