I think real Hip Hop's made a bit of a comeback in the last couple of years as mainstream rap has gotten more and more bling and ridiculous. There's some great recommendations here but I love Ugly Duckling as mentioned and J5 are always worth checking out. Also try my all time fave Buck65 who starts out more conventionally rappy and gets increasingly conversational and musical as we get up to date. Also never neglect Beasty Boys - Paul's Boutique is always immense.

It's so sad that people miss all this creativity and variety by grouping everything in with 50 bloody Cent*. Most of them seem to be on PH if recent threads are to be believed smile

I've followed hiphop avidly since i bought 'Licence to Ill' when i was eleven. I love hiphop and didn't mind the struggle over the last decade to find 'the good stuff'. But listening to disappointing new releases from artists i respect combined with decent new artists being so few and far between over the last few years, on the whole i think Nas was right ....
