Indeed.
Godfather of punk who championed new young bands while gigging the tightest band in history. A man who loaned Jake Riviera cash to start Stiff Records and who fought a long battle with Lymphoma.

Or bandwagon jumping dullard who rode a wave of hype before topping himself leaving a wife and baby.....

I do. And I'll never get rid of my wrist plaster cast that Lee autographed for me at Loughborough University. One of the most underrated frontmen ever.

indeed

the current travesty that is "DR Feelgood" should not be touring!

Go and see Wilko if you haven't - he's still barking mad, crap at singing but the show is fantastic. Norman Watt-Roy on bass is inspired too!

I have much respect for Wilko as he wrote in response to a request for guitar lesons from him!
this was long before the internet - he sent several hand written pages of tab and chords - maybe he had a gumby do this for him but I doubt it!

This is one of my favourite annoyances..
Way back when, Feelgood were an R'n'B band, the best the UK have ever produced. In my humble opinion their choice of guitarist declined with each change.

Wilko is a fantastic R'n'B guitarist, Gypie et al were decent, but by the time Walwyn got involved the band had degenerated into a pub-blues band with long, meandering blues solos (some might say self-indulgent blues solos!). Walwyn's a great Blues guitarist if you're into that, but he's no Feelgood guitarist. At least Gordon Russell tried...
Incidentally I've seen ALL the guitarists!

Wilko isn't THAT bad a singer! Although he's lost it a bit since he used to sing with Feelgood. My brother's band supported them many years ago in Ipswich and we went backstage for a chat. He, Norm and the drummer who was with them then, I can't recall, might have been Salv, chatted about pretty much anything with us. Great blokes.

My best gig moment ever was when Wilko appeared on stage with The Pirates at Dingwalls for 'Goin' Back Home'. Yep, Mick and Wilko together.... cloud9

I saw then at The Junction in Cambridge, NBZ were supporting and blew them off the Stage. Anyone here ever see an outfit called The Mean Red Spiders? they had an amazing guitarist

The 'Mean Red Spiders' is a name a few bands seem to use, but I suspect you are referring to the Suffolk band featuring Toni Vines on Guitar. Top notch R'n'B???
Sadly I don't think they exist any more. Last I heard Toni was playing with the Camelfoot Raiders although even that was a while ago.

My other favourite East Anglian R'n'B band is Automatic Slim. They are as close as you can get to seeing Wilko/Gypie Feelgood.

That's them, CDs were never as good as the live act and the guitarist was pretty heavy

Lots of great guitarists so far, but haven't seen Dave Mustaine mentioned!

I know, he's not technically brilliant, but I think his scrappy sounding solos are great, he sounds furious! His rhythm is probably the best I've ever heard (listen to "Rust in peace...Polaris" at about 4 mins!)

Alex Skolnick from Testament is underrated (listen to "The Ballad").

IMO, one of the most soulful guitarists is Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden, his solos just sound right

I admire shredders like Satch, Petrucci, Vai, Gilbert, Malmsteen etc, but they just seem to play fast for the hell of it.

If anyone mentions DragonForce they are dead!

For acoustic, I think Michael Hedges is amazing, but one of the best versions of his songs is played by someone else who is also pretty talented.

Amazing technique but also very musical and rhythmic.

Yes Mr Mustaine has produced some interesting work with Megadeth. Dragon Force, wasn't one of their albums called 'inhuman rampage' seems quite accurate to me.
