Oddly enough I've never gelled with Around the Fur!

Hope the rumours are true about the new album - i don't even think I've listened to Gore...I sort of lost interest when it seemed like Stephen Carpenter was disinterested.
Heathen!!!!!!!laugh

I know what you mean.... carpenter is absolutely top tier for me... the riffs and rhythms, oh my god, he's a genius...

Luckily for me I'm on the same wave as chino too so I love all the off shoot side projects of his like team sleep, palms and crosses....

The ambient sound if gore I really liked but I can agree.. when I get a deftones record I want the biggest ,cinematic width of heavy sound possible

Csnt wait for the new one!

Despite sitting on the fence about them previously, I am loving the new material from The Acacia Strain...

Also, the latest offering from Primitive Man is heavier than a very heavy thing...

Having an evening catching up on bands I'm aware of, but have not really spent much time listening to. For some reason, they are primarily Icelanic. Not sure whether that's a reflection on the Icelandic scene requiring deeper listening, or just something I've somehow missed, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Sinmara
Almyrkvi
Carpe Noctem

Almyrkvi probably pick of the bunch for me, but it's all exceptionally good.

All decent stuff, listened to the Almyrkvi split with Ruins of Beverast a month or so back - although preferred the Rob half, particularly the last track.

I always consider Svartidaudi the originator of the Icelandic scene/sound.

The new Orbit Culture album is worth checking out.

For those that like a bit of fun with their riffs I can heartily recommend Voyager

New Havukruunu album is truly excellent, very Finnish slab of pagan/black metal.

Riley Gale, vocalist for the staggeringly good thrash band Power Trip, is dead at age 34.

Power Trip' s blend of classic thrash and hardcore was so perfectly done that I reckon, had they carried on their trajectory, they'd have been mentioned in the same breath as the greats of the scene.

This little vid encapsulates what they were all about. Friendly dudes with massive talent, and a classic yet modern sound. RIP Riley.

Somehow missed that. Saw them at the Underworld back in 2018 and they were amazing.

Great band, always a good energetic live performance. A real shame frown

Listened to a few of their stuff on random on Spotify, would never have guessed he was just 34. Honestly thought it was a 90s band.

Popped up on you tube earlier, a band I’d almost forgotten about. Ferocious.

8 years since the video for No One Survives, nice little mini docu about how it launched the band to a higher level.

Deftones - Ohms

Well, err, you can tell that Stephen Carpenter has been let off the leash to direct this album's writing! It's much heavier than recent output, but still classic Deftones, with the lighter melodic moments in there. There's some great synth work going on as well - very distopian, almost Blade Runner-esque.

I'd been deliberately listening through the back catalogue again recently on the build up to this release, and got myself really stuck in a Deftones groove. Still couldn't get into Gore though - their weakest album by a long way imo, and I'd actually go so far as to say that for me it's their only release that's fallen short of their enduring high standards. On this first listen though, Ohms is an absolute monster! smokin

Love Deftones, completely agree about Gore.

Had a few listens of Ohms this morning and some of it is definitely old Deftones.

Read something that Steph’s using a 9 string guitar for Ohms eek

I really like Gore. Only reason I didnt listen to it more is because it came out the same day as Statues by Black Peaks.

New album is great on first few listens.

i had a panic attack when i heard the title track... the root movements were far too "happy" for me....then i heard genesis through the stty computer speakers (no bass) and was a pinch underwhelmed.... proper panic setting in as deftones have been THE heavy band for me since i first heard 7 words back in '95.......

anyway, got the cd and took it home to listen to on the "proper" stereo.....

my god, 3 times right through back to back.... fking incredible album... mad to think it's been 17 years since they worked with terry date too!
