Can I put forward three...?

Beautiful ambience of Rachel's Song by Vangelis...

Most hauntingly beautiful piece of music IMHO...
Debussy: Suite bergamasque, L.75: III. Clair de lune

and surely nothing can beat this for 'most haunting'...
Gregorio Allegri - Miserere mei, Deus

Here's a couple to add to my previous suggestion. I'd listen to these in my early 20s, so best part of 30 years ago which is a bit scary!
The first is from a band called Love and Rockets and this track is Saudade.
Type 'saudade' into Wikipedia and it'll make sense.
The second track is by The Mission and is the piano version of Kingdom Come. It just blows me away and I well up. Can't even explain why!
Play these through your decent speakers and not your phone or laptop.

That is "Saudade" track is spooky! It is remarkably similar to a tune a came up with a couple of years ago, noodling away one evening.

Mine consists of a fingerpicked pattern that, in the verse section, goes from A to Aadd9 to a G13 (sort of - G/C/B/E) to a Dsus2 using a lot of open strings. I reckon if I played that progression through something like a Neunaber Seraphim "shimmer" pedal, it would sound very similar.
