Been listening to Varttina all day to lift lockdown spirits.

No idea what they're singing about but it's lovely.

Hauntingly beautiful like having dental work without anaesthetic.

Anyone mentioned "A lap dance is so much better when the stripper is crying" by the Bloodhound Gang yet?

Just heard Killing Me by Luke Sital-Singh. It’s a bit of an emotional song!

I'll nominate Casta Diva. Two contemporary but very different versions here:

Firstly, the fabulous Aida Garifulina: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK6GsRUl4WI

Then the completely unusual alternative take by Cecilia Bartoli: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmwAEIq44YQ

Here's a contribution. Not sure it qualifies as "most", but beautifully melancholic:

Chet baker is god to me. Another one of his which is definitely haunting, "My Funny Valentine" especiall the live versions when he is at near the end of his life.

I dithered about whether to post that. Yes, he pretty much had it all (and sadly the heroin habit to match). One of my favourite artists.
