I thought of another couple today.

Mariah Carey Joy to the world ( this live version)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TtRgKvLkLHM

Hallelujah, there are loads of versions, but two of them are emotional, with out being ‘emo / kill yourself’

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e1K-c3RSX0c

This version chokes most people who hear it up.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nN1npZG3edI

This version was interesting.

Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, the prayer.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QctoD57aYqw

And another version of O holy night, this time by Josh Groban.

New favourite track

Apocalypse - Cigarettes After Sex (Long)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZLfifgQa3g

Makes you want to cry and unsure if you're happy or sad. Wistful and beautiful.

Had some ups and downs this last year with love and life, this feels like the perfect soundtrack to it all.

PH Search and Google don't see this in this thread, so here goes.

Radiohead - True Love Waits. The live version, not the version on A Moon Shaped Pool.

https://youtu.be/TAkQOuqs9kU (video has clips of Charlie Chaplin for some reason?!?).

Another contender is LeeAnn Rimes, “The Rose”, backed by the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles.
Catch it on YouTube, she wears a short dress that appears to have been sprayed on her.

Always liked the simplicity of Sandy Denny singing Fotheringay on the old Fairport Convention album:

This live version of 'Man of Colours' by Icehouse - WOW what a voice - loved this song back in the late 80's, this takes it to another level

Pretty much anything by Ray LaMontagne.

But, specifically, Let it Be Me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LWpw3CMCEg or Shelter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHmNEQYc3js

Alternatively:
- Foals, Spanish Sahara - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYoINidnLRQ
- Snow Patrol, An Olive Grove Facing the Sea - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVt2j6ljQzQ

If it’s not already been mentioned, I’d like to nominate ‘Taro’ by Alt-J, especially after reading up on the subject matter.

Also ‘Mykonos’ by the Fleet Foxes!

I’m biased being a massive David Gray fan but my goodness, I do love this. Put the guy behind a piano and I could listen to him play & sing forever. This is from an acoustic collection of songs from his new album, Gold In A Brass Age.

Haven’t been through the whole thread so forgive me if this has been nominated already, but Small Hours by John Martyn is probably the most haunting piece of music I’ve heard. Sounds incredible when driving through some countryside on a spring dawn in um, the...small hours?

I find that remarkably similar to this:-

Which, coincidentally, is another tune I just love.

Not seen this one on here yet...not exactly beautiful considering the subject matter of the song, but definitely haunting, and full of melancholy - love it

Can't remember if I've put anything on this thread? Just too many songs over many, many years that I could think of that might fit the bill.

Just heard this for the first time for a while. 1988. Not the most … ever, but lovely 'gem'.
Some from that era still say it's the background to their life to date.
