The lyrics to Roy Orbison’s “Crying” are undoubtedly emotive and thought provoking, but unfortunately, whenever I hear the opening chords I think of Philip Pope as Tony Angelino singing it as “Cwying” in an episode of “Fools and Horses.”

Love that Bobby Goldsboro track. Memories of life as a teenager. Would probably result in a jail sentence if the events played out like that these days.

I'd add Ghost in the Wind by Birdy for consideration.

Strange Fruit - Billie Holiday/Nina Simone.

It’s a beautiful song, but the lyrics are haunting and a stark reminder of what humans are capable of.

No probs. I tracked it down when Paramount channel used it playing over a tv programme trailer just before Christmas a few years ago. Not found anything else of hers I like so much.

Berlin Song. What I wouldn’t give to be able to play this. Used to great effect in This Is England.

Bob Seger, We’ve got tonight.
It has special connotations for me, I was driving an ex to JFK with her boyfriend, he was flying home, this came on the radio and she mouthed the words to me in the rear view mirror from the back seat, and she followed through with the meaning.
