Also look at the Mitsubishi Outlander diesel (not the PHEV) as an alternative. 2.2 diesel, 7 seater, decent size inside, good family wagon, CVT box, 5 year warranty.

Are they any good - hadn't figured in the list thus far?

Ah. As I suspected.

My brain screams Santa Fe. My petrolhead heart keeps hollering NO!
Yes, despite criticism from Land Rover and Mercedes owners the Korean stuff is pretty good. These days as good as Japanese, which has been as good as German and beyond Land Rover reliability for years. In our circle there is somebody with a Santa Fe and while the Discovery from another mate is always in for repairs the Santa Fe marches on without problems. As petrolheads it's hard not to succumb to badge snobbery nonsense. But it's the wisest thing you can do really. Not pay attention to the badge but rather to the whole package.

I have the above version 2+ years now, also looked at Santa Fe, KIA, Volvo XC90, Q7 etc.

Happy with it, specifically wanted a 7 seater. 5 year warranty is great, cheaper than the Santa-Fe for equivalent spec, has the Evo 4 wheel drive system so well proven, Decent interior (pretty hard wearing with kids), comfortable to drive ( done several 2000+ mile trips to the continent) excellent space both for passengers and rear load area. Consumption is average for 2.2 diesel. Exterior size feels smaller than Santa fe when driving (Perception at least) No rattles or creaks over 25K miles so far.

Negatives - Mine does not have android auto compatibility on the ICE, tyre size is odd so pricey, only drivers seat has electric adjustment, electric tailgate opens quite slowly, the aircon while heats quickly in the morning and cools rapidly when needed, the calibration on auto is odd, so manual adjustment is required frequently. Nothing major on the negative side. Decent vehicle.
