I have a '91 300GES. There are huge differences between the various models. For example the 280 drinks more than a jumbo. For good advice go to the two main sites. GWOA (www.gwoa.co.uk) and G Wagen Register (www.gwagenregister.com). Plenty of excellent advice.

One thing I would say, do lots and lots of research. There are shiny shiny offerings that are actually serious money pits. You need to get a sound straight machine. Don't worry so much about the aesthetics, its the basics that can suck up serious cash.

It took me years to get mine sorted and cost a lot. A guy who approached me to buy it, decided it looked too tired. Some folks only appreciate the shiny stuff !!!

Hi and thanks for getting back to me JB I think you have just turned me back to a 90 as all I want is a change a TDCI 90 will be a newer and better car overall for the same money fuel and parts are cheaper, as for Toyota I have had many Hilux's single and double cabs and while they come with rear leaf spring never again. This is a bit rude but I buy and sell a few cars not as a job but if they come in the yard and there is a profit any way I purchased a clean single cab Hilux mark3 last year just the same as I had nearly new when I met my now wife,I paid for the Toyota and took it home to show the wife,"come on lets go down to Southend and have some fish and chips" so we jump in and she said "remember when you took me out for the first time in one of these 23 years ago all bright and new?",any way half way to Southend she said to me "the bloody thing so choppy me tits hurt ,sell it ! ".And no I don't want a wife with smaller boobs so I sold it.
