Hi Folks,

Have a couple of Toyota 4x4s in the family (2006 Landcruiser 3.0 D4-D Invincible and a 2012 3.0 D4-D Hilux Invincible).

Have been wondering if there is a cost effective way to improve the performance of these engines. Anyone here got any experience of remapping these engines? Is it worth it? Is it expensive? I have not remapped a turbo diesel before, although my Discovery 2 does appear to have a tuning box spliced in.

The Landcruiser already has an engine as standard I think (202bhp) as it is the Invincible model. Hilux I believe is about 175bhp

Based South of Glasgow if anyone knows of a good tuner who can cost effectively help liberate more torque and power without killing the MPG too badly.

Cheers

I looked into this for the LAndcruiser Amazon 4.2 td a while ago but it seemed no one had bothered / cracked the code to allow fettling with the ECU, I think you can add in modules but I'm not sure they do anything more than put a resistor across something to inc fuel / air... Not sure about the D4D.

stock answer for me in Glasgow is Ecotune in Hillington, Stan really knows his stuff or as alternative and a man I know has mapped a few of the 3.0 Toyota lumps

and funnily enough Martin Auto clinic posted this up on facebook just the other day

Martins another one that really knows his stuff, doesn't do shouty headline figures but I know a lot of people in the trade rate him highly.

that said a quick bit of googling suggests a more aggressive map will see 240bhp and 375 lbs/ft of torque

Sweeeet, I had no idea that Toyota had been cracked, 201 bhp from a 4.2 td is pathetic.

It is, but, probably because they are unstressed, these engines go on and on and on.....
