Not sure of legality but I have camped beside beaches etc in Donegal and West coast of Ireland. Plenty of small roads and beautiful places but not much in the way of offroading.

Would second Isle of Lewis/Harris. (I grew up there) Lots of places, again mainly next to the beach where no one would bother you if you stayed the night.

Please be responsible though and take all your litter and anything else home with you. These spots are blighted by people littering or driving where they shouldn't and leaving gouges. Remember even apple cores are not a pleasant thing to stand on with bare feet when they are half rotten.

yes I plan to go with the 'leave no trace' approach as I cannot abide people who leave rubbish.

vehicle has been purchased (jeep WK) so now I should really get on with planning routes etc.
