Ideas for a 4x4 under 18k

I'm looking for a 4wd that is petrol as I only do short journeys about 6 miles and last year I did about 5000 miles.
Not bothered if its auto or manual.
The new duster is about 18k in the best spec, so that's my top budget.
I want it to have a decent turn of speed, and a decent boot as I have 3 dogs.
Needs to have a decent ground clearance as it will go off road, and be able to tow at least 1500kg
I don't need a massive car. Just reliable and modern ish
So far on the radar are range rover evoque (just in budget), pajero V6 SWB (if I remove the rear seats)but import only and maybe a freelander V6.
But apart from these im struggling a bit and a jimny is far too slow. Any ideas ?

It’s a shame they didn’t bring the petrol version on the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk to the U.K. however you can get the diesel model for under £18k now.
Some of the older Wranglers are petrol so could be another option? Also look at the Subaru Outback and Forester

Used 4x4 Duster petrol are very rare and anyway Dusters hold their value very well. how about a land cruiser 4.0 v6? that engine and drivetrain is soooo smooth and the engine is bombproof

Good call. I'd also think about a 100 4.7 V8. 18k or close would get a stonking example. Silly fuel consumption but you'll never lose money on one.something like this but newer https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

both good trucks, although putting a dacia duster in the same comparison as a 100 series is like putting a ford transit against a challenger 2.for diesels id take the 100 series but for a petrol id take the 120 series 4.0, absolutely lovely to drive. Saying that, both are super reliable (AHC only common problem, and is relatively minor) and you wouldnt really notice 1500kg behind either of them. 120 series is much more "car like" than the 100
OP - do you have an opportunity to use the new vehicle for more than 5k per annum and 6 mile trips? I ask that as you have multiple vehicles in your garage that you may use for different purposes, currently.
If you did have the opportunity to use this new car more and give it a bit A or M road time, the world becomes your oyster in terms of fairly new diesels at 18k. You will get the benefits of a reliable, newer car and the benefits of diesel economy.
DPF is also less of a concern when towing as it will get hot, faster, due to the increased load. Lower mileages and shorter trips should be a (relatively) lower concern.

I've gone full-on "challenger tank" spec here with a 4.5 litre 80. As far from a normal car experience as possible but great fun and a world away from a Land Rover

Yes. For reliable, best value for money the best is to go Japanese or Korean these days. You didn't mention if you want a real SUV or if Crossovers would do. But I guess since you're thinking of a Duster, which is really a Crossover you are not worried about that. If you are not really set on new, I would buy used. You will get the best value for your 18K. Then you have several options on low mileage examples for your 18K.
