Jeep WK 3.0CRD Overland

Looking at buying one of these used probably a 2005/6 version at £4-5k

Previously had 4.7v8 WJ that was a great car so not interested in alternatives.

Anyone got any links to used guides and or points to look out for?

I ran one for 2.5 years. Cracking big thing. Side bolster of drivers seat is prone to cracking. In built Sat nav is crap. Boston sound system has the best sound from any car I've had before although connectivity is crap. ( Well it is old)

23mpg is the norm. Managed 30 mpg once on a road trip to Oban. 27 mpg can be done on the motorway without too much trouble. A chip will see 270bhp and slightly better mpg.

Reliability wise, mine was great. They are heavy cars so can go through bushes. No need to replace the full wishbone, which is expensive, just the bushes. Glow plugs controller went on mine causing poor starting. It wasn't that expensive to fix. 200 quid if memory serves me well, and it started on the button after that.

The 3.0crd is a very common engine, so most decent mechanics will know their way around them.

try and get a 2007 or later one, quite a lot of small changes that improve them. Spent a while looking for one, pre 07 ones seem to be rust prone, unsure if they improved paint / chassis coating etc after 07. Sat nav is pants, however there are interfaces to use to make swapping plug and play

Thanks for the tips - currently looking at a 06 overland with low miles, mint condition and no rust.

Anyone got any experience of remaps on these - supposed to improve economy?

Never had a remap myself, but plenty of options out there. 260 bhp is conservative and improved MPG by 2 or 3 seems to be the norm.

Don't forget about the RFL change in 2006, more or less doubles the 'tax' from a 2005 model.
