Sales of these must be very poor looking at how many are on offer and the level of discount. Despite this I really fancy one.

Has anyone who has owned one got an opinion on them?

I've not seen one at all apart from YouTube. Really like them, although too pricey for me new.

I can understand why they won't sell here. Wrong market. Firstly we don't really have anywhere to use their potential. And due to how commercial vehicles are defined in the UK, it falls short. So nobody wanting a commercial pickup truck, which I suspect it practically all of them. Will even consider it.

Hoping it might influence used prices in a few years.

Also while the 2.0 diesel is a good performer on paper. I think generally most preferred the old 3.2 diesel. And I think there is a case that for the UK market the petrol 2.3 turbo as used in the N. American version of the Ranger would have made it a better seller here. As it would have been genuinely pretty rapid.

If they had been able to get payload up to the magic 1 tonne and classified as a 'van' for tax purposes, I think they would have sold out immediately.

I love it and would have traded my Wildtrack in for one no-hesitation if it had qualified. It looks fantastic, the spec is great, the Ranger is already a very nice vehicle and this takes it to the next level, the only issue with it is price. When you account for tax implications (say 20% VAT, 19% Corp Tax, 40% Income Tax), you could buy THREE Wildtracks for ONE Raptor!

Saw a white one down by the beach here and it looked great, not as nice as the black one at the dealer though!

I would love one 2nd hand now that they are much more sensible money. Mid 30's etc with low miles. The VAT side is irrelevant for me as this would just be a leisure toy. I really need to drive one though to see if I could cope with that engine. I have driven a friends Amarok V6 and loved it but my heart is leaning toward the Raptor.

If that came to the uk that would destroy residuals of the diesel.

The next gen Australian Raptor will have the following engine options: 2.0 litre twin turbo diesel (157kW), 3.0 litre turbo diesel (190kW) and 2.7 litre twin turbo V6 petrol (242kW).

Interestingly, there will also be a 'jump' mode for the suspension smile

Where is this information from? The same media outlets that told us the current Raptor would get a V8 ?

I would imagine they will offer a hybrid version yet its not mentioned anywhere so I'd sceptical about other engine guesses.

Don't know anything about a V8 sorry.

" Outside North America, in Australia, Asia, and likely Europe, the new Ranger Raptor will get a choice of two diesel engines. The base one will be a new 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel with 210 hp (157 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of twist. On selected markets, a larger F-150-borrowed 3.0-liter V6 diesel should also be available with 255 hp (190 kW) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm). Both compression ignition engines will be linked to a 10-speed automatic with different AWD layouts - adaptive AWD for the 2.0 diesel and permanent AWD for the 3.0 version. "

I also don't have any info about a hybrid version but would expect that to be badged VW in any case.

Why do you think a Ford hybrid would be badged VW? confused

The days of the large capacity Diesel engine are behind us.
Look at VW canning the 3.0V6 in the Amarok. Light years ahead of the Ford offerings but still blows the average corporate CO2 emissions up above acceptable levels.

Interesting to see this topic pop back up. Despite my previous enthusiasm on this thread for them, I never bought a Raptor in the end.

I was concerned about the engine and (much to their credit) managed to blag a Ford press fleet example for a few days. Unfortunately all it did was confirm my fears; the truck was great in almost every way, but I was left really deflated by the engine. I decided that it wasn’t for me because of this, but I’m still very fond of it.

I must admit I’m still tempted (especially now there are deals to be had, even on new ones), but then again I’d probably enjoy a Wildtrak or Thunder almost as much for significantly less outlay. Really hoping that the next-gen one gets the engine it deserves, in which case I’ll be first in line for one. I’d buy one tomorrow if I won the lottery, but for now I can’t quite justify it as things stand.

I too have only seen a couple out on the road; they seem to have sold very poorly which, when you consider the hurdles it faces and the wider car market, is not in any way surprising. At least it now comes with the updated LED headlamps. biggrin

I have been looking for a fun car lately, and so decided to take a test drive in the Raptor and found it looks amazing, is really nice inside, had a beautiful ride and it is simply ‘king of the road’.

If it had somehow had its payload boosted for the U.K. market to the magic 1 tonne I think the demand would have been insane. I for one would have taken one on the spot.

However as a private purchase the engine is just not quite exciting enough and lets down the package as a ‘mad’ £50k Ford. It would be fine as a commercial vehicle, you could forgive that given the tax benefits, but with my own money it needed to be something more and that engine just didn’t cut it. With a proper bit of speed and a matching exhaust burble it would be the most fun, hilarious and awesome vehicle currently on sale IMO, certainly under £100k.

But as it is, instead I’m going to give my Ranger Wildtrack a couple of upgrades, and enjoy it for the next few years until the new Ranger comes out.

Unfortunately Fords level of service particularly on commercial vehicles fall far below acceptable.

I seriously considered the Raptor and spoke to the local dealer about it. We also spoke about the constant problems I was having with trying to get repairs carried out.
As you’d expect the salesman did his best and assured me that if I bought the vehicle through him that I’d get better treatment!
After yet another breakdown on the Wildtrak and balls up by the dealer I lost the will to fight anymore and sold both the Transit and Ranger and went to VW.

I’d argue the service for a £30k vehicle is unacceptable, at £50k it’s a total joke.

I think that is dealer dependant. I've seen nothing but good service from my ford commercial dealer.

Because the next gen Amarok and Ranger will platform share.

yes VW have been working with the Ford design team for some time. I wasn't sure if it was general knowledge, so I apologise for not answering your question first time round.
