I think you did the right thing!, a £20k Landcruiser will still be worth a good proportion of what you paid for it if you sell in a few years time whereas a £20k Rangie will be worth about £2.50!.
Looks really nice in that colour too, glad you’re enjoying it.
Exactly that! All the toys, pretty much bulletproof and they really don't seem to depreciate much.

I have a Hilux Surf with the 3l diesel and I am quite surprised how smooth and refined it is considering its a big old diesel lump.
I keep thinking of getting a more modern 120 Cruiser but worry about rattly diesel syndrome. Maybe a 90 with the old lump would be a better bet.

Oops, I didn't mean to start a RR-bashing thread hehe

FWIW, I do really like Rangies - a friend of mine has a TDv8 of a similar vintage and it's a wonderful thing - fair bit quicker, too. I already have an aging, highly-strung V8 to feed and water though, so the LC fits my needs perfectly.

OP, can you do a readers's car thread? That would be very interesting !
I've been meaning to! Not exactly driving anywhere at the moment, though, which means something of a lack of anecdotes and photos. I'll get round to it at some point though smile

OP, how rude and thirsty is it on the whole / average ?
Again, my driving patterns aren't really normal at the moment. But over the 1500-odd miles I've done in it so far, I'd say very approximately:

Long distance cruise: low 30s
Every day driving: high 20s
Towing: mid 20s

Trip computer is currently saying an average of 28mpg, all things considered. About what I expected really - and quite noticeably better than a mate's Shogun 3.2 DiD.

That’s pretty good fuel economy, my 3.6 Rangie does about 23 around town (but I don’t really use it around town often) and on longer, motorway drives will do 30-31.

Interesting you say that about the Shogun, I know someone who had a MK4 and I’ve had a MK3 and my 120 Series Landcruiser was miles better in fuel, in fact the Rangie seems better on fuel than one too and it’s a V8!.

Same here I have a 96 3.0 diesel as my daily driver and considering it’s 25 years old with 250k miles on the clock, it is so smooth and effortless to drive, I keep wondering what I’d replace it with when it finally gives in (in about 2045!) but would be either another one, a landcruiser, grand Cherokee or disco 3/4 🤔
