This is a great write up, same with photographs, and a timely post as having returned from the Alpes last month we're taking the Landy down to Portugal next summer. But will cheat a little taking overnight to Bilboa or Santander.

Great to see to see another owner using Land Rovers for what they were designed to do thumbup

Thanks. I’ll be probably do the ferry next time too, although whenever I look the prices cause a sharp intake of breath. Portugal is on our list, there are some excellent tracks to explore. Too many destinations, not enough annual leave. There was an article recently in LRO mag about exploring Portugal recently.

Yes, a bag of sand for the Defender & two occupants !! eek I've calc'd the cost of driving and it's more or less the same, plus quicker to destination via the ferries. Will look up the LRO article thumbup

This is a great write up. Thanks for sharing. Could you confirm whether your paint work was damaged by the cattle grid gates that you have to drive through. I would love to take my G Wagen but don’t want to screw up the paint work if it can be helped.

It's certainly possible they might leave a light mark, the gates have generally got some foam taped to the ends, but they do drag down the side of the car. My car was already full of scratches from branches and bushes so it's hard to say if the gates added to it.

You could look at putting helicopter tape or some clear wrap down the sides which may help.

Great to see this. We did the same trip with our 3 children and our 130. Camped off it each night and were blown away by some of the scenery and wildlife.

Wonderful place. I genuinely never knew there were vultures in Europe beforehand, and they are everywhere.
