The chap in the 90 must have been very cross. Spending all that money on bonkers articulation to then get passed by a Series and a Jimny.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBNPZFNOK-4&fea...

I have just bought this, collecting it at the weekend and am quite looking forward to playing in the mud!

Just remember, the more capable the vehicle, the more stuck it'll be when it finally runs out of ability

I got my Mog 404 stuck once on a local farm and the farmer struggled to get it out with his 200-horse John Deere.

Chassis: Range Rover 1975 (used for a wider track) shortened 10" and fully hammerited
The bit about a wide track? how does a range rover chassis have anything to do with trackwidth seeing as all rover and salisbury axles are interchangeable (pretty much bar suspension mounts).
Shortened 10" from the back or middle? if its a 100" hybridge then lovely, but if its a 90" then i'd really be worrying about SVA.
in fact i would be extremely worried about forking out 10k on that motor when it doesn't have an old Q plate or more worryingly and SVA. You only need to get refused an MOT once and you are totally fooked- you will have to pass an SVA (if VOSA let you take one!) and i can't see how you will with that vehicle- for any mutlitude of reasons- will post a link to a case in point tomorrow wnen i can find it!

The wheelbase is 90" so the chassis has been cut and shut 10" from the mid section. This is no real issue. Its probably the case that they had a 100" chassis and it was cheaper and easier to cut'n'shut than buy a Defender.
Agree with everything you say except this- any cutting of a chassis whatsoever means the vehicle needs and SVA. I'm not worried about the strict legality of it, but more from a practical point of view. 2 of my friends have had vehicles that fialed an MOT (after years of passing them), were directed to DVLA and VOSA, both of which decided that the vehicles COULD NOT BE MADE ROADWORTHY. One was not eligible for SVA and one just could not be made to pass SVA. These vehicles were stripped for parts and then scrapped causing a huge amount of heartache and financial loss.MOT stations are only getting tougher on this sort of thing, and not that they are all computerised, when you fail an MOT on a technicality the next MOT station cannot ignore that technicality.
For 10k i'd want the vehicle to be road legal- sorry OP!

Its the quality of the welding that is the issue there.
A totally proper job and you will barely, if at all be able to tell there has been any work done.
Front of your drive specials with an 80amp Aldi welder, a tin of carlsberg and a vision and dream will achieve something that will, a couple of years down the line fail an MOT drastically.
ETA
p.s for the real anoraks & pedants on here - yes, I am aware that a '90' isn't ninety inches in wheelbase and therefore where I have written 10" it technically isn't.
agree that you won't SEE the weld, but if, god forbid an accident occurs then that weld will be a structural weakness, it will be picked up by crash investigators at any rate- Look at Gresham family tragedy- 32 faults found. A totally proper job and you will barely, if at all be able to tell there has been any work done.

There are also a number of police identity vehicle specialists into off roading- they aren't into catching people but they are aware exactly what goes on.
This truck will carry no insurance in the event of an accident.
It really sounds like i'm standing on a soap box, i'm not. I don't really care what people get up to on their own driveway- but so few people are aware of the real risks involved with customising land rovers. The repurcussions can be very very severe.
