Was talking to a mate recently who works in forestry and has a 3.5V6 L200 for his work truck - after numerous engine problems the gearbox has just let go as well, he's now planning to go the same route as many of his colleagues and get a Navara next time round instead.

Land Rover has to be the way to go. Not sure I'd buy a Puma yet but the td5 110 or 130 would be a good choice.

Tales of woe regarding the 2.4 are prolific already.

I'd rather have an LR than any of the current Jap double-cabs...

Of course, I;d rather have a Mog Doka than an LR too!

Had my new shape L200 18 months now and would never look back.

Never missed a beat in 34,000 miles.
Servicing every 12,500 miles.
Comfortable, best driving position of any pickup I've been in.
28-33mpg typically.
Good off-road with normal tyres, very good with some proper mud pluggers on.
Doesn't fall over like a Hi-Lux.
Doesn't fold up in an accident like a Navara.

I will let you know when I get to 200k. wink

Still at least I've done 33,000 trouble-free miles more than Navara owners!

Hello All

Got an 05 plate L200 Warrior club cab as company vehicle, need to carry up to 1 tonne occasionally and find it a good workhorse even all they way up to Scotland, like the comedy handling and on the back roads it does seem you have to kind of wallow/steer very early and once judged right will keep you happy for ages just not going too fast.

Fuel economy ranging from 23 to 28 mpg but it may be the way I drive it(like it's stolen). Done 99000 miles and awaiting the replacement but with service intervals at 9000 miles it does appear at times to be in the garage a hell of a lot. Bad points for the club cab are cramped rear seats, really bad window rubbers which makes the sensor think it is trapping something in the window and winds back down, Mitsubishi have tried to repair it and replaced rubbers on drivers side but in the end I gave up as it was not worth the messing about all of the time. Not too happy with local dealers attitudes at times, but that is my only dealings with mitsubishi so others may be fine.

Anyway looked at replacement double cab L200/Navara/Rodeo/Hilux/Ford and have opted for the 3.0 D4D Hilux HL3, wouldn't stretch to the Invincible, main reasons for choosing the Hilux being emmissions/Economy/Rear bed size and options included as well as boyhood dream of actually getting one and the Top Gear Hilux programmes(North Pole and Blown up building)

Keep you posted on my findings in the next few weeks once the newbie arrives.

Planning on doing either then ?

Good set of lads and a handy site for Hilux info
http://www.hpoc.co.uk/community/index.php?

Oh just remembered, watch for the `rattly` injectors on the new 3.0 motors

Plan is Hulux but would recommend old shape L200 which I suppose was my point, cannot get on with the new L200 looks, though I am sure I would get to like them eventually.

Thanks for the site, will keep reading there but mind already made up and just waiting for the confirmed delivery at 7 wks in Black.

Are these Navara engine problems just with the older D22?

Problems with navara engines on the D22 are common. I have a king cab on an 04 plate, it had one previous owner and was dealer serviced every 6k miles. At 110k the engine began rattling, smoking and misfiring. It was taken to a local main Nissan dealer who had it 3 months but could not find the problem and didn't seem interested. An independant diesel specialist found the problem in minutes,it had thrown a piston due to excessive big end wear. It cost me nearly £2k for a replacement and over 3 months without a works vehicle.
Having spoken to several engineers and Navara owners its a common problem.
I've had Land Rovers for years without major problems, modern vehicles seem too technical. Wouldn't have another Navara!

Down here in NZ where 4wd utes are the vehicle of choice for the vast majority of farmers, tradesmen etc the Mitsi isn't really even considered an option by most, they have an overriding reputation for poor reliability and being expensive to fix when they do go wrong.

For most of the last 20-something years the Hilux has been favoured over the Navara as the default option, but with the current models that has reversed slightly and the Navara seems current favourite by a small margin.

Hi,

Same in South Africa.
You find most of the farmers have a Hilux or 2.
Mitsi, is not considered a decent pick up yet.
The Mitsi Colt. is more for bussing the kids around in.
For serious work, the Nissan comes way before the Mitsi.
The Hilux rules the roost though.
