Places to off road in Berkshire

Hi,

I have recently been given a Jeep Grand Cherokee and am interested in taking it off road. Does anybody know any good places to go in the Berkshire/Hampshire area as I live in Newbury?

I’m also after a CB Radio and tow bar, so if anybody knows any good suppliers give me a shout.

There's a pay and play site near Aldermaston http://www.4x4-withoutaclub.co.uk/

I went there earlier in the year. Grand Cherokee is quite big but assuming you want to keep it dent free, If you stick to the safe stuff you should be ok.

As far as laning goes, grab an OS map and check out the west berks site http://www.westberks.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1...
The definitive map has all the info on there. Just be careful as there are some TROs in place at the moment.

Just hunt out the byways and avoid everything else. There are some great lanes all around Newbury. Some of them form part of the Ridgeway, or are around the Ridgeway. Most parts of the Ridgeway which are open to vehicles are now closed for the winter. So make sure you get an OS map and check this site http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/Ridgeway/downloads.... to make sure you stay legal.

Most the lanes I've done will probably be ok for a Grand Cherokee as far as terrain goes - there's not a lot to bottom out on. Although some can get very narrow - so there could be risks of scratches.

Thanks very much. I've just got an OS Map and will be out and about over the weekend. The Jeep has quite a few scratches on it already (or should I say a LOT of scratches on it) so wont be afraid of adding a few more.

I think I will be going to the Aldermaston site next Sunday as they have an open day. Should be a good day I think.
