My mates Chevy Blazer LT Auto (W Reg) has just done the following

Driving out of a carpark the lights for selection lit up and its selected 4X4 low. permantly. No amount of button pressing can shift it it out of 4X4 Low

Car up till now has been faultless really 50k mileage full service history.

Said I would have a look over Xmas for him, but cant find much about them on the web,

Any advice or links to info on these gratefully received.

has it been driven in 4x4 mode with the diff locked? it might be transmission windup.

try reversing a little bit on full steering lock then trying the button/leaver.

failing that, get all 4 wheels in the air at once off the ground... then try.


failing that... goto the pub, cause i dont have a clue!

Its been on a wheelfree ramp, the windup is not really the problem, its that you cant select anything else,

Either he sells it as a very slow off roader, or I take the front prop off and put huge wheels all round to get it up to fifty miles per hour, neither of my suggestions went down to well.

Time for the pub I think............

Try US blazer owner forums? or if it has to be moved remove front prop shaft?

Short term: "I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, reconnected the leads, turned the ignition switch on and off 5 times to reset the computer. Wallah!!! Back to 2WD again"

Long term: replace switch

All sorted after lots of work discovered it was the connection on the rear of the button selectors for 4X4 hi lo etc on the dash.

Noddy old system though, give me levers anytime.

Cheered me up to hear it had been to 2 4x4 garages neither could find it.

One thing tht did make me smile is one of the garages had removed the engine earth and forgot to re attach it! I only noticed this as it was on my checklist. I could tell it hadnt been off long but oh boy.

I was also surprised none of the undertrays removed, so again when I saw that I did the levels on all the drive gear, dry as a bone, between them they took 1.5 litres of oil, 3 months ago it had a full service! I also took pics of them with all the bungs out on my phone just to show my mate, he wasnt happy.

But at least its drivable again now,
