Search Pay & Play days in your area, you pay your £20-30 an get all day on a large offroad site where there will be other enthusiasts to help if you get stuck (which you will!) and a burger van. Sibbertoft is the closest I know of to B'ham but there may be closer.

Wou;dn't recommend greenlaning or other offroading on your owns. Make sure you've got plenty of equipment, you'll be amazed how easily you can become stuck...

GLASS for green laning...if you want to get into the scenery or search for 4x4 play days if you want to get your 4x4 muddy - green lanes aren't the place for testing a 4x4

Avon Dassett near Gaydon. They run a really good pay and play every 2 weeks.
