Have you looked at a Suzuki SJ as I would never pay over £1200 for insurance ever, £2600 thats just stupid imho for what the car is, I wouldn't even entertain paying an insurance company that much, if you do imho of course you are a fool.

The SJ will be just as capable off road, cheaper to insure and run as well, where my money would be going if I couldn't afford a Land Rover, put it this way I could go out and buy the R33 Skyline GTR that I want, but insurance is £2200, I am now getting a Land Rover wink

You are doing well for 0 NCB. I paid over £3000 for my first year of insurance at 17 years old. Insurers just are not interested in drivers without any NCB, you are seen as a high risk and as such they want lots of money. You just need to take it in your stride, pay the big premium for the first 2 years, then it will start dropping considerably.

I dont have any no claims bonus as im only a named driver on car. the land rover has a lift and a schnorkel but i didnt plan on telling the insuance about the mods.
I assume its Sean Connerys' Land Rover with a schnorkel fitted?

Not telling the insurance company amounts to one thing and one thing only, thats fraud, it is illegal not to tell them as if you hit something it means your cover is null and void as you have breached the terms, I will also assume that although being a named driver on the other vehicle you aren't the main driver, ie you haven't fronted the policy by putting it in your mum and or dads name, you as a named driver, its your car and you drive it all the time, if so I wouldn't mention this on here, as it wont go down well, as thats also fraud and illegal.

Now the thats done, wrt to a Land rover and insurance, a few things that might be worth considering, it doesn't matter what the vehicle is worth, its how much the insurance company might have to pay out in the event of a crash, so they look at the vehicle, then cross reference that vehicle with younger drivers, if the stats are high you will get expensive insurance.

Legal ways of getting your policy down
Bigger excess
Less mileage, dont lie they can check with mots
Less valuable vehicle
TPFT
Add your mum and dad as named drivers you as the main
Tell them about any mods usually not much to do add mods
Check what category your post code is and be prepared to fit an alarm, as landies get stolen quite a lot

To be honest you should of started your own policy by now as you get ncd, im only 22 but a landie is like £300
Fraud is charging 3 times the value of a car for insurance. I know about 3 people who didn't front during their first year or driving, at least. Anyway, they can never prove it so who cares?
Good tips on how to keep the costs down. And do declare the mods because they CAN and WILL prove that, and then you're buggered.

Fully comprehensive on a brand new car, with you as the policy holder, and no other names on the policy? I don't think so...

Classic insurance policy through liverpool vitoria, before they became LV
My mum and dad as a named driver policy in my name
Value of vehicle £450
Lmited mileage of 8000 miles I did around 6500 miles iirc
No mods
Category A postcode
Car kept on private land locked away from the road
It was TPFT if it had been in a smash it would of been written off and I would of got no money for it so kinda pointless in going fully comp
also the car wasn't exactly your usual car for a 17 year old, so as far as accident VS age VS cost of repair statistics went it probably wasn't even on the radar lol

at 18 I had a mk1 golf GTI fully comp in my own name at £1700, I am now 22 on a group 20 grey import paying £700 wink postcode makes a massive difference a

Have you tried NFU?
Tempted to check out mine but I thought you had to live out in the country for them to think about covering you, and be involved in agriculture well thats what I can gather, I will pop down to the one down the road from me and find out.
NFU will be the cheapest. But they Generally will only insure under 21/25s (i forget which) if their parents already have a policy such as tractor insurance. When you are looking at 90s forget the station wagon ones, get a hard top, it will be far cheaper to insure at your age. I've had some good 4x4 quotes with tesco before, but then i have 4 years no claims so i dont know what they would be like with your 0.

But at the end of the day you will be looking at a fair amount for the insurance.
My mate: 2003 td5 defender hard top, worth £6k. He is 20 years old, 0ncb, low insurance area. He pays about £1500 fully comp for his with i believe a £800 excess on his policy.

Quote possibly the WRONGEST advice ever on PH.

Don't be so silly Soov, of course they can't prove it, however Pistonheads can with some careful digging and bints that front also help in getting the truth out hehe

Yes they can and will prove what you have done.

I have just had a quote for the 90 I have just picked up, £288 fully comp, 22 yrs old 4 years ncd.
