Thats a longer term solution - my issue is I need to get using it now.. I was meaning more of the short term fix:

> Remove the inner auto hub section and fit them back as guards.

or

> Weld into "lock" and run locked?

(I still have to find out how "locked" works)

Would weld to lock and if you need to go on the road just run in 2H. Should be ok then for windup.
Watch those bearings though.

Well...

I took the springs and inner ring out of the auto hub section this afternoon.

Then I welded inside the seam where the inner piece spins, locking them for all time (or until my crappy weld shears).

I then put them back on - with lots of gease, popped the case back on - cir-clips in - and packed the end with grease, finally screwing the outer (chromed) plate onto the thread, having cleaned it and re-sited the little rubber seal.

All watertight and solid - hubs locked for good.

Took it to a 3 foot deep mud puddle in a field half a mile away - and it drove ok on the way in 2wd - and went through in 2wd with the pickup sliding everywhere and covering me in mud.

The engaged 4wd and ploughed through with no problems.

Fingers crossed for me!

Massive thanks to you chaps for helping - especially Eggman smile

Glad to hear all is good. Sorry could not go into it a bit more. Had my head where the sun don't shine, busy selling boats which surprising for the present climate.......

Leave it with me ... though I have a few "custom" boats to, or as we say "Plenty of Owners Modifiactions"......rolleyes

I saw the Chimaera on your profile guess its a 94/95 . Is it 4.0 / 4.0 HC or 4.3. I had a great 95 HC, then a low mileage late 500. Enjoyed both, great cars and they cost me nothing. Not to good though when the family comes a long. I quite fancy a Monaro now as I guess its the closet thing with 4 seats.

That was my gorgeous 400 - loudest TVR I ever heard, bought it off Silverback Mike... not sure quite what he did to the exhausts but feck me it sounded loud!

Sadly sold now frown

(Still get to drive her though!)

As is the XJR in the pics...an absolutely unbelievable car that was. Sold it on and had a string of others since then - including my customised matte black 1986 Rangie V8 hehe
