Hey folks,

Can anyone recommend the best code reader to get for an Audi?

Excuse the naivety, but I keep reading about VCDS which I believe most people recommend, but is this just the software part which I use with a generic cable or is it actually a specific piece of hardware.

The Mrs's 2011 Q5 2.0 t is starting to struggle on cold starts. After a few blips of the throttle she's OK but on occasions it feels like it ain't going to start at all.

It had a fairly recent service at DT, and they didn't find a problem. However I'm not convinced they did any more than just run the engine rather than check for faults. Once running the car will restart fine.

In addition the car is drinking crazy amounts of oil. Seems relatively common some VAG cars and this engine, but clearly not right. I'd say it need a 1l top up each month. My wife drives approximately 50km daily.

Hi Matt,
The VCDS is a decent enough thing for reading and clearing codes. There are a couple of interfaces (cables) available. Ive never tried using a generic OBD to USB before, so not sure it'll work with the software.

Drop me a PM if you want the codes read at anytime just so you can see whats going on.
